Ashleigh & Angela had a wonderful time catching up with colleagues and making new connections at the annual PWC-NJ Day at the Races 2026 at Monmouth Park Racetrack on Friday.

Events like this are a constant reminder of why the Professional Women in Construction - New Jersey chapter is so vital to our industry. Ashleigh & Angela had an absolute blast at "Drop the Mic - Karaoke Night with PAC" connecting with industry partners, cheering on everyone brave enough to take the mic, and supporting a great cause.

While the vocal performances took center stage, the event was all about backing CAI-PAC (the Political Action Committee for the Community Associations Institute - New Jersey Chapter), which advocates for legislative policies that protect common-interest communities and their infrastructure standards.

Ever wonder why some lots just need a fresh coat of sealcoat, while others require a full mill and pave? It all comes down to surface protection vs. structural integrity.

👉Think of sealcoating like sunscreen, it’s crucial preventative maintenance. It seals healthy asphalt, shielding it from UV oxidation, water pe*******on, and fluid spills. But here’s the catch.. it only protects what’s already solid underneath.

When you see a crew milling down the asphalt (like in the video above), here’s why sealcoating wasn't going to cut it:
▪️Deep Structural Failure: When pavement breaks into interconnected web patterns, the sub-base is compromised. Slapping sealcoat over this is like putting paint over dry wall with severe water damage - it won't last.
▪️Grade & Elevation Limits: Over decades of overlays, asphalt builds up. Milling grinds off approximately 2” of old asphalt so the new layer sits flush with curbs, ADA ramps, and drainage inlets without creating dangerous lips or water traps.
▪️Severe Rutting & Depressions: Heavy truck traffic creates grooves over time. Milling resets the profile so fresh hot-mix asphalt lays down completely flat and smooth.

✨The Golden Rule: Sealcoat to preserve good pavement. Mill and pave to restore broken structure. Diagnosing the pavement correctly saves property owners tens of thousands in premature failures down the road.
