SUPERSTORM SANDY — OCTOBER 2012
Just a few months after the Derecho tore through Maryland, we found ourselves preparing for another major storm.
This time, we had a few days' warning.
The weather forecasts were predicting that Hurricane Sandy was heading our way, and we knew there was a good chance we were going to be busy.
At Duraclean, we spent those days preparing. We made sure we were fully staffed, checked our equipment, and had everything ready to respond when the storm arrived.
And it's a good thing we did.
When Sandy hit Maryland, massive power outages left thousands of homes without electricity. For many homeowners, that created another serious problem.
Without electricity, sump pumps couldn't operate.
As the rain continued, basements began flooding throughout the area. Our phones started ringing, and the calls just kept coming.
By the time the cleanup was over, Duraclean had handled 140 claims associated with Superstorm Sandy.
It was an enormous undertaking for our company, but it's exactly why preparation, experience, and having a dependable team are so important.
Looking back over 40 years in business, Sandy is one of those storms I'll never forget.
