Very well written and great explanation. Taken from Farm Direct Page.

PSA- Every farmer sets their own prices based on their costs, their production methods, their processing expenses, & the work involved in raising that animal.

So when someone says to a farmer, “You’re charging too much,” it’s worth stopping to think about what actually goes into that price.

Do you know the cost of the land, feed, hay, fencing, equipment, veterinary care, processing, transportation and years of work that go into putting that beef on your table?

And then there is the other comment farmers hear: “It’s cheaper at the grocery store.”

Sometimes it may be. Most times it isn’t.

For perspective, here are some example current grocery-store beef prices (8/27/2026). Prices vary by location and sales:

Cub Foods
Ground Beef — $6.99–$7.69/lb
Chuck Roast — $8.99/lb
Boneless Ribeye — $18.99/lb
New York Strip — $18.99/lb
Tenderloin — $28.99/lb
Rump Roast — $5.99/lb
Sirloin Tip Roast — $8.99/lb
Short Ribs — $7.99/lb
Brisket — $7.99/lb

Coborn’s
Ground Beef — $6.99/lb
Chuck Blade Roast — $11.99/lb
Boneless Ribeye — $23.99/lb
New York Strip — $24.99/lb
Tenderloin — $29.99/lb
Rump Roast — $10.99/lb
Sirloin Tip Roast — $10.99/lb
Short Ribs — $9.99/lb
Brisket — $13.69/lb

But price is only one part of the decision.

When you buy farm direct, you have the opportunity to know your farmer. You can ask how the animal was raised, what it was fed, how it was finished, where it was processed and what farming practices were used.

With conventional industrial ground beef, trimmings from many animals can be combined into large production batches. Those batches can represent hundreds to 1,000 of animals — meaning that ground beef in your freezer could be from many, many animals.

Let that sink in.

You have choices when you buy food for yourself and your family — and that choice is yours.

You can support the local grocery store, large or small. You can support the local farmer. Or you can do both.

Just remember what we saw not that long ago when grocery-store shelves were empty.

Your local farmers were still here.

They were raising food, answering phones, meeting customers and helping put food on Minnesota tables.

Know your farmer. Know your food. Support the people who raise it. 🌾🥩

Sorry we’ve been a little quiet lately… it’s been one busy Minnesota summer! ☀️❤️

Between five weddings, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, spending precious time with our granddaughters, helping one son plan his wedding, and another son moving to South Dakota, life has definitely kept us on our toes!

But don’t worry—we’re still here and still have quarters, halves, whole steers, and individual cuts of our locally raised beef available. 🥩🐄 We’d love to help fill your freezer!

Now we want to hear from YOU!

🌽 What’s keeping you busy this Minnesota summer?

Uncle Matt took a break from his busy weekend to take his nieces on a four wheeler ride and to the pasture to show the girls the cows. Lots of fun on the farm.
