Can a house be built too airtight?
No, as long as wall assemblies are built correctly for moisture management and air exchange is managed correctly.
Where did the air infiltration code requirements come from? Joe had something to do with it.

This home is getting a spray-foamed roof deck, a very good energy investment.
Before the foam went in, we installed a baffle system that will provide the needed ventilation for the shingle roof above.
Shingle companies are realizing that unvented attics are not good for the life span of a shingle roof. This is beginning to show up in their warranty requirements.
This house will be energy efficient, and the shingles will be happy!
