Brace yourselves, Callery pear trees will start blooming soon.⏳ Widely planted as an ornamental with popular cultivars such as the Bradford pear, these trees have become one of the worst invasive plants in Virginia. πŸ‘ŽπŸŒ³

Need a mask? 😷 In addition to their ability to spread rapidly and crowd out native plants, some people find the odor of Callery pear blooms highly unpleasant. 🀧 They also break easily during storms, posing a hazard to people and property, and wild varieties can grow sharp thorns capable of puncturing tires.

The good news: We have many native trees that offer beautiful flowers without the stink. Think serviceberry, dogwood and fringetree, just to name a few! Stay tuned for DOF incentives to replace your Callery pear trees...πŸ‘€

WINTER STORM WATCH MAP

β€’ This is a useful map showing you where travel impacts/icy roads will occur-- as you can see this includes most of Virginia.

β€’ Wintry mix begins Tuesday morning near sunrise for many.

β€’ As a heads up to you, when a Winter Storm Warning is issued for your area, school is typically cancelled.

β€’ Another Low pressure swirl will bring additional precip on Wednesday.

β€’ I'll be posting the "snow map" with forecast amounts/timings/details within the next hour.
