The shop is moving!

Three custom gates are painted and ready for installation, with three more lined up for paint. There is a lot of work happening behind the scenes to keep our installation schedule moving and make sure every gate leaves the shop built right, finished properly, and ready to serve our customers for years to come.

Six gates in production and no signs of slowing down. We’re proud of the momentum our team is building at The Gate Guy!

Today was control box assembly training with Terry and Joel while Jocelynn worked on prepping six gates for paint.

Both guys are new to access control, but they each bring something valuable to the table. Terry is a veteran fabricator with more than 30 years of experience, while Joel is fresh out of welding school, eager to learn our process the right way from day one.

It’s exciting watching their progress and listening to the ideas and insight they bring to the shop. By the end of today, we had everything preassembled for all three installations next week—and we’re already preparing to pick up another pallet of American Armor gate operators.

This is what growth looks like: building a strong team, training together, and preparing ahead so we can deliver better, more efficient installations for our customers.

Not every gate needs to be fancy—it needs to be built right and work every time.

For this project, we installed two new steel posts, hung a functional 16-foot gate, gave it a custom paint finish, and completed the automation package with:

• American Armor gate operator
• 100Ah battery
• 25-watt solar panel with Victron charge controller
• LiftMaster KPW250 wireless keypad
• Cartell wireless free-exit system

COST VS. QUALITY

We see it all the time—someone shopping for gate work based solely on the cheapest number.

That will never be us.

We do not strive to be the cheapest contractor, and we are not participating in a race to the bottom. Our goal is to provide quality workmanship, premium products, and dependable service at a price that is fair to both our customers and our company.

For transparency:

• Basic gate operator installations start at $3,250
• Service calls range from $160–$350 depending on distance, time of day, and whether it is an emergency
• Gate installations with automation and posts start at $5,500
• Custom projects typically range from $10,000 to $100,000+, depending on the size, materials, design, and access-control features

We’re not saying this to be cocky. We’re saying it so you know exactly who you’re calling.

This is what investing in yourself—and in the people who have proven they’re willing to build beside you—looks like.

Too many people give up because they’re afraid to put themselves out there, take a risk, or invest real money into their own vision. But nobody else is coming to build your dream for you. At some point, you have to believe in yourself enough to go all in.

I’m proud of how far The Gate Guy has come, and even prouder to be building alongside Jocelynn as she takes Shortt Cuts Studio to another level.

I have to take a minute and give Jocelynn the recognition she deserves. Watching her new fiber laser come to life tonight was a pretty incredible moment, and I couldn’t be prouder of everything she has accomplished with Shortt Cuts Studio.

She had the vision, did the research, learned the technology, handled the planning, and turned an idea into a legitimate manufacturing business. I mostly lift whatever she points at, move steel around, and try not to touch any buttons I’m not supposed to. 😂 She does all the smart work—I’m just the grunt labor with a truck!

All jokes aside, I’ve watched how hard she has worked and how much determination it took to get here. She has pushed through every obstacle, continued learning, and refused to give up. This machine represents so much more than a new piece of equipment—it represents everything she has built and everything still ahead of her.

Congratulations, Jocelynn! I’m incredibly proud of you, and I can’t wait to see what you create next. Shortt Cuts Studio is officially up and running! 🔥
