Come to Miller Park on Saturday to explore the wild world of w**ds!

Managing w**ds in home gardens can be a challenge, especially when w**ds have already become established. This workshop will cover what makes a plant a w**d and general w**d management strategies for home gardeners. Participants will learn how to identify and manage about ten of the most common and threatening types of w**ds that occur in the Florence area. We will focus on w**ds that are actively growing at this time of year.

Terraced Garden Landscape: Beauty, Function, and Sustainable Land Use

Terraced gardens are an elegant solution for transforming sloped land into productive and visually stunning outdoor spaces.
The landscape shown in the image features a series of carefully constructed stone terraces filled with colorful flowers, ornamental plants, and lush greenery.
Wide central steps create easy access between levels while enhancing the garden’s symmetry and appeal.

By dividing a hillside into multiple planting zones, terracing helps reduce erosion, improve water retention, and maximize usable space. The lower patio area, complete with comfortable seating, a fire pit, and outdoor dining space, creates a welcoming environment for relaxation and entertaining.

Benefits of Terraced Landscaping
Controls soil erosion on sloped terrain.
Improves drainage and water management.
Expands planting and gardening opportunities.
Creates attractive outdoor living spaces.

Key Design Features
Stone retaining walls for strength and durability.
Multi-level planting beds that add depth and visual interest.
Central stairway for accessibility and structure.
Integrated patio for recreation and social gatherings.

Tips for Success
Use a mix of flowering plants, shrubs, and ground covers.
Install proper drainage behind retaining walls.
Incorporate outdoor lighting for safety and ambiance.
Select plants suited to local climate and sun exposure.
This beautifully designed terraced garden demonstrates how thoughtful landscaping can combine functionality, sustainability, and aesthetics, transforming a hillside into a vibrant and inviting outdoor retreat.
