The queen of the backyard finally stopped long enough for a few lovely photos this afternoon.

Did you know that female cardinals sing!? They're one of the few female songbirds that regularly use their voice to communicate with their mate while nesting. And while they're not as visibly striking as their male counterparts, the females colors help keep her and her future chicks safe while she nests.
