⚡️ IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM HANLEY ELECTRIC
🚨🚨DON’T PANIC. PREPARE.🚨🚨
As electrical contractors, we spend our days working with the infrastructure that keeps homes, businesses, and communities powered. We pay attention to things that most people understandably don’t have to think about.
And right now, there is something happening that we believe people should be aware of. Because we know people look to experts in times like these.
Soooo…..
Our electrical grid is under increasing demand.
AI and data centers are bringing an enormous amount of new electrical demand. Manufacturing is expanding. Electrification is increasing. At the same time, building new generation and transmission infrastructure takes years.
This isn’t speculation or something we’re saying to create fear.
The organizations responsible for planning and operating our electric grid are talking about it too.
MISO—the regional transmission organization responsible for coordinating the electric grid across Michigan and much of the Midwest—has described an “unprecedented surge” in requests from large electricity users, including data centers, AI computing facilities and advanced manufacturing.
Many of these projects are looking to connect to the grid within 18–36 months, while traditional generation and transmission projects can take substantially longer to develop.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration is also forecasting continued growth in U.S. electricity demand, with data centers becoming a major driver of long-term electricity consumption.
The reality is simple:
Our demand for electricity is growing, and the infrastructure required to keep up takes time to build.
That doesn’t mean the lights are going to go out tomorrow.
It doesn’t mean everyone needs to panic.
And it certainly doesn’t mean we should believe every sensational video or headline we see online.
But it DOES mean we should be paying attention and preparing our families.
Because here’s something we’ve learned over the years:
You can’t always control what happens.
You CAN control how prepared you are when it does.
We genuinely hope more people start thinking about backup power—not because we want anyone to be afraid, but because we want families to be prepared.
If a standby generator isn’t in the cards for you right now, start with a good portable generator. Learn how to use it safely. Have the proper equipment to connect it safely. Know what your family would need if the power were out for an extended period of time.
And if you’re ready for a whole-home standby generator, we’re here to help with that too.
We’ve been incredibly busy completing generator projects, and we’re just finishing up the last of our current work over the next few weeks. We’ve recently been involved in getting backup generation operational at 12 Target locations throughout Michigan.
Seeing the amount of planning and infrastructure that goes into keeping essential facilities powered only reinforces what we’ve been saying:
Preparation matters.
We can’t personally stop the changes happening to our electrical grid.
We can’t control how quickly new infrastructure gets built.
And we shouldn’t sit around waiting for someone else to come rescue us if something goes wrong.
We can prepare.
We can take responsibility for our own families.
We can make sure our homes have backup power.
We can learn how to safely handle an extended outage.
And the more people who are prepared, the less vulnerable our communities become when difficult circumstances arise.
That’s not fear.
That’s being responsible.
🔌 HANLEY ELECTRIC GENERATOR APPOINTMENTS ARE OPENING AGAIN SOON.
We’re wrapping up our current projects over the next few weeks, and we’ll soon be scheduling our next round of generator installations.
If you’ve been thinking about a standby generator, now is the time to get on our list.
Don’t wait until everyone else is trying to get one.
Prepare now.
Stay informed.
Take care of your family.
When hard times come, preparation gives you options.
