When people hear that we have our own business so often we hear, "oh how cool you make your own hours and can choose when to work and not work".
And yes, to an extent that is true, we can choose what days to do jobs and when not to do jobs.
BUT just because we are done with a job or don't have a job scheduled that day, it doesn't mean the work is done.

For business owners there's a lot of work that happens after we leave from completing a job. That could be invoicing, topping off fuel/greasing machines, deposits/paying bills, buying new materials/equipment, scheduling, social media, or just maintenance.

Last night was another night of spending the evening with my family after working all day and then after the kids went to bed it was time to go out and sharpen more teeth for the grinder. Any time I have a job I like to have at least an extra set to a set and a half of teeth on hand just in case. I never know for sure how the terrain will be or if there will be hidden rocks in the ground when doing the stumps until I start the jobs. I prefer to be prepared and have spares to change out then risk damage to my machine, or not being able to complete a job or have it take longer because my equipment wasn't in the optimum state. Your time matters and I want to ensure quality service while not taking away unnecessary time, and the more efficiently I am running the quicker I get to get home to my family who is the reason I do this.

Each tooth has to be cleaned with a wire brush to be inspected for chips and cracks, those can no longer be used. Then each tooth is set in a different pile to be sharpened. The teeth take anywhere from 3-7 mins a tooth to resharpen the edge depending on how dull they are after what types of stumps were ground/if they hit rocks. Then they have to be set aside to cool because the sharpening process causes them to be hot before I can pack them up for the next job.
This is a long process for 24-36 teeth and I try and do at least a little any time I can but sometimes life is busy and it means some long nights.

This is the life of a small business owner. It's hard work, but it's rewarding work.

We had the pleasure of helping remove the stumps after KNK Tree Service, LLC did this lot clear! It's incredible how fast this crew was able to clear all of the trees in such a short amount of time.

This post is ENTIRELY too late. However, it is with good reason. I wanted to make sure that I had adequate time to express how truly happy I am for these two people and their whole family.

Nick Bowers and Sage Bowers mean so much to KNK Tree Service, LLC and to all of us here. We couldn't ask for better friends or for a better employee.

Nick and Sage were our (Ken and Shelby Jones) neighbors over 10 years ago, and that's how we met. At the time, KNK was in its early stages and was still just being ran by myself and Kris. We quickly became close friends with them. Over the next several years, hiring Nick came up in casual conversation about 1,000 times.

Finally, Kris and I decided to give it a shot on a bigger job we had lined up. Needless to say, we never looked back, and Nick has been with us ever since.

He shows up when we need him to, he is always willing to help, and most importantly he is the positive attitude we all need when it feels like nothing is going right. More recently, Nick and Sage started Bowers Five: Home & Outdoor Services LLC which has only furthered our relationship and allowed us to work together on more jobs.

There is no better way to celebrate 250 years and freedom then to spend the day with what matters most... with loved ones!

We are enjoying our first holiday with our newest addition, fireworks, music, BBQ, and a good time making memories that will last a lifetime!

This week was very exciting in our household! My wife gave birth to our beautiful daughter and new member of our crew!!

I am still receiving calls and texts for setting up quotes for estimates for stump grinding but will be taking until end the of next week to enjoy with my family before doing any jobs. I will get back to everyone that reaches out within at least 2-3 days and appreciate your patience as we adjust to our new addition!
