OPTION 1
September is the Best Time for a furnace tune-up: before the first freeze.

Early maintenance can catch worn parts, airflow concerns, and safety issues while there is still time to address them. It may also help you avoid the rush that often follows the first cold snap.

Replace the filter, test the thermostat, check smoke/CO detector batteries, keep the area around your oil or propane/LP furnace clear, and schedule professional maintenance for safety-critical components.

Davis Heating and Cooling serves Flemington and Hunterdon County.

OPTION 2
Your furnace may be off today, but September is the time to prepare it. A tune-up can identify worn parts, airflow problems, and safety concerns before the heating season gets busy.

Replace the filter, test the thermostat on a cool day, check smoke/CO batteries, clear the furnace area, and schedule professional maintenance.

Davis Heating and Cooling is here for Flemington and Hunterdon County homeowners.

OPTION 3
A comfortable winter starts with September preparation. Check your filter, test the thermostat, replace smoke and CO detector batteries, and keep the area around your oil or propane/LP furnace clear.

Professional maintenance can address safety-critical components before the first freeze: and before service schedules fill up.

Davis Heating and Cooling is proud to serve our local community.

Thinking about replacing an oil or propane/LP heating system with an electric heat pump? Eligible Flemington and Hunterdon County homeowners may qualify for incentives through JCP&L’s Clean Comfort Program.

For qualifying full-displacement projects, incentives may cover up to $10,000 or 50% of the project cost. Moderate-income customers may have up to $12,000 potentially available. The program may also offer up to $2,000 for decommissioning and up to $2,000 for re-ducting, depending on eligibility and current program terms.

“Full displacement” means the old oil or propane system is removed or properly capped, fuel lines are disconnected, the fuel company is notified, required contractor and customer sign-offs are completed, and all paperwork is submitted. If another combustion appliance remains, required carbon monoxide detectors may also be needed.

Check the current JCP&L requirements before starting work: rebates are not guaranteed until eligibility is confirmed. Davis Heating and Cooling can help you understand the project scope and decommissioning process.

Your HVAC system is designed to cycle as needed to maintain a comfortable temperature. When it starts and stops far more often than usual, however, your home may be telling you something is wrong.

Short cycling can affect comfort and put additional wear on equipment. If you've noticed unusual cycling in your Flemington home, it's a good time to have the system evaluated.

Before you hire an HVAC contractor, ask a few important questions:

• Are you properly licensed?
• Do you carry current liability and workers’ compensation insurance?
• Will you obtain the required permits?
• Can you provide references or recent reviews?
• Will I receive a detailed written estimate before work begins?

Unlicensed side work may seem cheaper, but it can leave homeowners responsible for accidents, property damage, code violations, or missing permits. A written estimate also helps clarify the scope of work, equipment, labor, warranties, and any additional costs.

For peace of mind, choose a reputable, licensed, and insured team. Davis Heating and Cooling proudly serves Flemington and homeowners throughout Hunterdon County with honest recommendations and professional service.

Save this checklist before your next HVAC project.

Should you cover your outdoor AC unit when summer ends? The honest answer: usually, no.

Most standard AC condensers are built to handle New Jersey weather. A full cover can trap moisture inside the cabinet, encourage rust or mold, and create a cozy hiding place for mice and other critters. Windblown leaves and debris can also collect underneath.

A better fall routine:
• Clear leaves and debris from around the unit.
• Keep at least a couple of feet of clearance around it.
• Don’t place anything on top of the condenser.
• If you choose a cover, use only a breathable, manufacturer-approved top cover: not an airtight wrap.

One important exception: If you have a heat pump, leave it uncovered. Heat pumps use their outdoor unit during the winter and need unobstructed airflow.

What’s your experience; do you cover yours or leave it open to the elements?

As late summer winds down, windows start closing and air conditioning runs more often. That can allow dust, allergens, and excess humidity to build up indoors.

A few simple habits can help:

Check your HVAC filter monthly and replace it according to the manufacturer’s recommendation: often every 1–3 months, depending on your home and filter type.

Aim for indoor humidity between 30% and 50%. A small hygrometer can help you keep track.

Use kitchen and bathroom exhaust fans, and ventilate briefly when outdoor air quality is favorable.

If your home still feels dusty, humid, or stuffy, an air cleaner or professional indoor air quality evaluation may help identify the cause.

Comfort starts with the air you breathe. Davis Heating and Cooling is here to help homeowners throughout Flemington and Hunterdon County make informed decisions about healthier, more comfortable homes.

Your thermostat doesn't measure the temperature throughout your entire home, it only measures the air around the thermostat itself. That's why nearby sunlight, lamps, or heat-producing appliances can sometimes influence its readings. For homeowners in Flemington, NJ, thermostat placement plays an important role in maintaining consistent indoor comfort.

When the lights go out, a heat pump needs electricity to run: so storm-season preparation matters. ⚡

Before the next NJ outage:
• Know whether your home has whole-home generator coverage.
• Never connect a portable generator to your home’s electrical system without a properly installed transfer switch.
• Keep doors closed, protect exposed pipes, and follow your generator manufacturer’s safety instructions.
• Ask about backup heat options before severe weather arrives.

A properly designed hybrid system with oil or propane (LP) backup can help keep your home warm when a heat pump cannot operate. The right setup depends on your home, equipment, and electrical needs.

A little planning now can make the next storm safer and more comfortable for your family.
