Choosing the Right Pro: Licensed Electrician vs. Handyman
When it comes to home repairs, a handyman is a great resource for lists, painting, or fixing a fence. However, when it's time to work on your home’s electrical system, the stakes are significantly higher. Here is what every homeowner should know before hiring someone to touch their wiring:

When it comes to your home's wiring, the difference between a handyman and a Licensed Electrical Contractor isn't just the price it’s your safety and your insurance coverage.

Why Licensing Matters
A licensed professional is trained to meet strict National Electrical Code (NEC) standards. While a handyman is great for general repairs, they often lack the specialized training required to prevent electrical fires or major system failures.

The Insurance Risk
This is the most critical part: Your homeowner’s insurance may deny a claim if a fire or disaster is caused by unlicensed electrical work.
• Licensed Pros: Carry specific liability insurance and bonds that protect you.
• Unlicensed Workers: If the "wrong people" do the work, the financial burden of a disaster could fall entirely on you.

Permits & Peace of Mind
Licensed electricians pull the necessary permits, ensuring a third party inspector verifies that the job was done right. This protects your family now and prevents major headaches when you eventually try to sell your home.

Pro Tip: Always ask for a License Number and a Certificate of Insurance before any work begins. It’s not just about a job well done it’s about protecting your biggest investment.

Stay safe,

We recently got a call from a customer who was sure their EV charger wires were too thick for the terminals. After a quick look, it turned out the wires were exactly the right gauge they just needed a little "open door" policy!
The Fix:
• The Problem: Wires wouldn't fit into the ChargePoint terminal blocks.
• The Reality: The terminal pins weren't fully opened to accept the wire.
• The Solution: We popped those pins open, seated the wires properly, and got the power flowing!
Sometimes a "too big" wire is just waiting for a little more room. Always double check your terminal releases before swapping out your materials!

Quick Home Hack That Can Save You From Annoying Breaker Trips
Most people have NO IDEA that their breaker keeps tripping because they never checked this one tiny label.

The appliance nameplate (that little metal sticker usually on the back/side/bottom of your device)

Here are the magic numbers you MUST look at before plugging in anything big:
1. Voltage → Should say 120V (or 115–120V) for normal US outlets→ 240V? You need a special dryer/oven outlet

2. Amps (A or amperes) → This is the killer number most people missTypical examples:
• Microwave: 10–15A
• Toaster oven / Air fryer: 12–15A
• Space heater: 12–15A
• Coffee maker + toaster + kettle at once = instant trip

Why the "Inexpensive" Choice Can Cost You More
We recently responded to a service call for a brand new dryer that kept tripping the breaker. After inspecting the installation, we found the culprit: a metallic cable housed in a plastic junction box.
Because the system wasn't properly grounded, the GFCI breaker couldn't function correctly, leading to constant power interruptions. This is a common issue when electrical work is performed by unlicensed or "handyman" services who may not be familiar with current safety codes.
The Fix: We replaced the plastic box with a proper metallic junction box to ensure a solid ground. Now, the dryer is running safely and efficiently!

Pro Tip: Electrical safety isn't the place to cut corners. Always hire a licensed professional to ensure your home is up to code.
