Call us today to start your journey! Barden Builders was formed by Aaron Richards in January of 2006. Born to a skilled carpenter and craftsman Harry Richards, Aaron aspired to be a carpenter since the first time he set foot on one of his fathers job sites at the age of 3. Aaron began working in the residential construction trades in 2000 out of high school while attending college for a degree in

construction management. After college, Aaron worked for local construction companies as a framer, leadman, and eventually supervisor before starting Barden Home Builders in 2006. He has also spent 2 years in a hands-on appenticeship program with San Juan Constructors. The name Barden comes from a long family history on the east coast. Aarons great-great-grandfather founded Bardens Boat Yard in 1927 and the business continues to operate to this day. Jane MacDonald, grand daughter of boat yard founder Fred Barden, has always supported Aarons aspirations and eventually helped him form Barden Home Builders. Since then, with the advice of his mentors, he has continued to grow and expand Barden Home Builders into a well established, small construction company. With hundreds of projects completed over the last few years, ranging in size from small custom shelving to major home additions, Barden Home Builders is capable of completing any residential construction project on time and beyond your expectations.

In the rear of this home renovation project, the focus was on creating a space to actually live in the outdoors. A patio sits right off the main living areas, with room for both dining and lounging, and an outdoor fireplace built into the masonry wall anchors the whole space and makes it a comfortable space during all of Flagstaff's four seasons.

Set among the pines the way it is, the deck feels like an extension of the forest around it. Now it's a place the family can settle into year-round, whether that's a meal outside or just watching the wildlife move through the trees.

A full walkthrough of a whole-home remodel we recently wrapped, top to bottom. This one touched nearly every part of the house, from the kitchen and bathrooms to the flooring, finishes, and layout, all reworked to feel cohesive from room to room.

Projects like this are some of our favorites to take on. Seeing where the home started and where it ended up, the transformation really speaks for itself. What was a dated, disconnected floor plan is now a space that feels current, comfortable, and built around how this family actually lives.

We got a chance to sit down with Aaron and hear the story behind the Barden name and logo. It's not something we talk about often, but there's real history in how the company came to be and how it got its name.

He walked through where it started, what the name means to the family, and the thinking that went into the logo itself. For a company built on relationships and doing right by the people we work with, it felt worth sharing where all of that came from.

The bedroom renovations at this project started with what already made these rooms feel good and built up from there. Both hold onto the original wood-beam ceilings, paired with white walls, wood floors, and sliding glass doors that open right out to the pines. It's a straightforward approach, keeping the warmth and character of the original rooms while updating everything around them.

The primary bath remodel pairs nicely with the new master suite. A walk-in shower with green geometric tile sits alongside a wood vanity and a soaking tub tucked into the corner, mixing clean lines with materials that keep the space feeling grounded. Calm and comfortable, which is exactly what these rooms should be.

You've probably heard the term ADU by now, but it's worth explaining what it actually means. An ADU, or accessory dwelling unit, is a fully self-contained living space on the same property as a main home, with its own kitchen, bath, and entrance. It functions independently rather than as an extension of the existing house.

What makes them worth considering is how many ways they can be used. Some homeowners rent them out for an additional income stream, others use them to add long-term value to the property, and a lot of the ones we build are meant for multi-generational living, giving family a space of their own while staying close. It comes down to what you need the space to do, and an ADU tends to be flexible enough to grow with that over time.

The finishes on this one turned out exactly how they were planned. The kitchen, the bathrooms, the tile and backsplashes all landed just the way they looked on paper.

It doesn't always go this smoothly, which is part of why we spend so much time on selections up front. When the planning is right, the finished space matches what the homeowner pictured from the start.

The front of this home came together so the addition reads as part of the original house, not something tacked on later. The new gabled entry, the stonework, the siding, and the rooflines all carry the same character across the whole elevation, tying the older and newer sections into one home.

That's the goal on a project like this. When it's done right, you can't tell where the original house ends and the new work begins.

One thing we think about on every project is how a space will be used across all four of Flagstaff's seasons. A home here gets a real winter and a full summer, and the spaces worth building are the ones meant to be enjoyed in both rather than sitting empty half the year.

This outdoor patio renovation is a good example. The homeowners wanted a space they could genuinely use no matter the season, so we designed it around that intention from the start, building in the accommodations they asked for so the patio has a purpose in every month of the year. Now it's a part of the home they can enjoy whether it's a summer evening or the middle of winter.

Choosing a contractor is one of the bigger decisions in a remodel, and it's worth taking time with. Look at how a builder communicates, how they handle problems when they come up, and whether their past work holds up over time. Price matters, but it tells you less than how a team prepares and how they treat the people they work with.

That's the standard we hold ourselves to at Barden. We work closely with our clients, keep them in the loop through every phase, and treat each project with the same care we'd give our own home. As we keep growing, that isn't going to change. The homeowners who build with us can expect the same honesty, communication, and quality of work on every project we take on.

This great room remodel really brought the fireplace to life, with a painted brick finish that ties the whole space together. The wood ceiling and beams stayed, but everything around them got refreshed with new furniture and finishes throughout. Swipe to see what it looked like before, same bones, different feel.
