Huge accomplishment and adventure in this custom design-build furniture piece!

From client inspiration wants and needs to an end result furniture piece. I was able to successfully design, build, and deliver this final product to my client. A piece they will look at and use in their home for a long time.

This client came to me wanting a better built dog kennel/AV storage solution for their TV wall. We worked through the details and after a long wait, this was the end result!

Ash furniture piece with black square balusters, barn door hardware with soft open and close hardware, solid dovetail drawers with .official soft close under mount slides, finished with Sepia Brown LED Hardwax Oil. hardware to add final touches to this beautiful piece.

Make What You Fear 2024 Post: 5 - Assembly

challenge shop apron/chest tool belt leather work project.

A lot of progress was made towards the final vision!

Because I’m not into leather work and don’t have a budget for the equipment. I sought out some quick education on leather hand sewing techniques. In these pictures I show the steps I took to layout sewing lines. Punched the sewing holes with a set of irons from the sewing kit. Began to sew about 30 yards of thread by hand.

Needless to say, there was blood, sweat, and tears put into this project. Tears were shed when I marked a piece of leather and realized it was wrong. To add insult to injury, I made the same mistake twice!

I embraced the mistakes and kept them in the project. A timeline and reminder that nothing has to be perfect. Learning new skills doesn’t always mean perfection on the first try. Lastly, not knowing how to do something isn’t a limitation. It’s only a temporary learning curve.

Photo drop of phase 1 of the barn repair project!

In this phase, I collected and reclaimed barn timbers to recreate the damaged parts for this barn. I studied the previous build techniques and had to add my own creative process to get this barn back together during this repair process.

Phase 2: My form of barn raising and reassembly of the frame.

Phase 3: Wrapping the frame with barn boards and patching the roof section.

Lots more work to do!
