Cranes, trains, and automobiles!
Springfield, IL - As part of a large-scale rail improvement project that will house a new Amtrak station, a county square, and a new parking garage, downtown just got a new pedestrian walk bridge over their main rail line.
Several years were needed for this project; from concept to design to engineering to placement.
Custom Service Crane, Co., Inc. was asked by our friends at Broeren Russo and their Ironworkers to assist with designing the plan to set this massive structure over the live rail line. A 32-page lift plan addressing any concerns for the railroad, General Contractor, and our customer, Broeren Russo Construction, was drafted and implemented.
Broeren Russo’s crew, working thru Williams Brothers Construction and O’Shea Construction, tasked us with this mission. All partners were pivotable in providing everything that was needed to make this critical lift happen. From providing the exact location on this congested site to pre-assemble the bridge, to adhering to the railroad's lift policies, to our own safety standards as it comes to dual crane lifts.
The spotlight was on this project from the beginning.
We brought in one of our trusted trade partners and their 750-Ton machine for one end of the new pedestrian bridge and utilized our 550-Ton machine in tandem on the other side.
The lift went smoothly due to the collaboration between all parties—from engineering the exact weights, to providing the area needed just for the laydown of counterweight trailers; this project consisted of over 680,000lbs of counterweight distributed between both cranes.
There will always be instances when you must adjust on the fly in this industry, but this Lift required no adjustments thanks to the hard work, attention to detail, and planning of everyone involved. went about as smoothly as any due to the hard work of everyone involved. Anticlimactic is a good word in the crane industry!
