π¨ finish carpentry β the work everybody notices, even if they don't know why
framing hides behind drywall. finish work is what you look at every day β baseboards, door and window casing, crown, the trim around everything.
good finish work is tight joints and corners that meet clean, especially inside corners, which should be coped, not just mitered, so they stay tight when the house moves with the seasons.
bad finish work gets hidden with caulk and paint, and it works until the light hits it wrong or the joints open up in a year or two.
when you're walking a finished room, look at the corners. that's where a carpenter shows you who he is.
