Awesome!
FMS families and students, here's a first look at something we're really excited about: the Construction Skilled-Trades Lab coming to our technical center.
This new 4,000-square-foot facility will be built on the site of the former PreK West building and is set to open by Fall 2027. The equipment for the Lab has already been purchased and is on site at FMS, ready for installation once construction is complete.
Once open, the Lab will bring together high school carpentry students from Rocinante, Piedra Vista, and Farmington High under one roof, in a space designed specifically for hands-on, industry-standard training. Currently, carpentry is only offered at FHS in a smaller space, so this expansion means more students across the district will have access to the program.
Carpentry is one of the most practical and transferable skills a student can learn in high school. Beyond the immediate trade knowledge, students develop a direct path to good-paying work. Skilled carpenters are in high demand, and many students can move into apprenticeships, union programs, or entry-level construction jobs right after graduation, often without the need for a four-year degree.
Our goal doesn't stop with carpentry. We plan to grow this Lab to include training in other high-demand trades, giving even more students a head start on a stable, well-paying career right here in our community.
This project is being fully funded through Bond and HB450 funds.
Stay tuned. We'll have more updates as construction gets underway.
