Looking at this tree, its clearly dead, right? Well, actually, no! We spotted this tree on a hiking trail and it shows a pretty cool story. Half of this tree broke off years prior causing one side of the cambium of the tree to wither and die. The other side is lively and full of green needles. This white pine (pinus strobus) is nearly 100 feet tall and ostensibly thriving if you didn't walk to the back side of the tree.
Why does this matter? If the lively side of this tree is facing your home, you may not know there is a very large potential problem lurking on the backside of this tree and your yard, home, or family are potential targets. Things like this can go completely unnoticed without the experience of an arborist to give a full risk assessment in your yard.

Just a friendly reminder that October and November are a GREAT TIME to plant trees, especially your fruit trees (pictured below). This past year, we had many excited clients who were harvesting their own apples, peaches and pears after trees were installed and the homeowners got on a good fruit tree treatment plan! With all the storms lately, we see social media flooded with comments saying "landscaper available to handle dangerous tree removal" or "I used to work for a tree guy. I can do it cheaper"
That's true.
After storms, tree related issues can be extremely dangerous and tricky. Most "landscapers" and "I used to do this" people are not insured to do tree work, lack the requisite equipment, and most importantly, the skill set to safely remove a hazardous tree from your house or property.
In the midst of dangerous weather, don't risk your home or life savings hiring someone who isn't insured or licensed to perform this dangerous work. Find a licensed arborist, find a reputable company with a track record of decades of work history.
Saving a few dollars could cost you far more in the long run.
