When cooling costs rise, the HVAC system usually gets the blame.

But in many cases, the issue starts with the building itself.

Heat gain, insulation gaps, and hidden inefficiencies can force systems to work much harder than necessary during the summer months—leading to higher bills, uneven comfort, and nonstop runtime.

That’s where aerial thermal imaging comes in.

By looking at the building from above, we’re able to identify areas where heat is entering and where performance issues may be impacting efficiency.

☀️ Sometimes the problem isn’t the AC—it’s what the AC is compensating for.

Recently, we completed a follow-up home assessment for a property experiencing ongoing condensation and moisture concerns.

At first glance, insulation seemed like the obvious issue, but a closer evaluation revealed a bigger picture.

During the assessment, our team identified:

• Significant attic air leakage
• Ventilation imbalances
• Unsealed penetrations allowing unwanted airflow
• Potential moisture movement through the foundation system

What made this case especially interesting? The home was vacant, eliminating many common indoor moisture sources and helping narrow down the root cause.

This is a great example of why homes need to be viewed as complete systems, not just individual problems.

Sometimes the issue isn’t what you initially see. Understanding how airflow, moisture, insulation, and ventilation work together can make all the difference.

🔍 The right data often tells a different story.

As summer approaches, aerial audits provide a unique look at how your building is handling heat before temperatures peak.

Using thermal aerial imaging, we’re able to identify:

• Areas where heat is entering the building
• Weak insulation across the roof or building envelope
• Hidden inefficiencies that increase cooling demand

These issues often go unnoticed from the ground, but they can have a major impact on comfort, energy use, and HVAC performance during the summer months.

☀️ Aerial audits help uncover problems early, so your building is prepared before the heat arrives.

Heat is coming… is your building ready?

As temperatures rise, your building and HVAC system are about to work a lot harder. If there are hidden inefficiencies, like insulation gaps or areas where heat is getting in—those small issues can quickly turn into higher cooling costs and inconsistent comfort.

The key isn’t reacting when it gets hot—it’s preparing before it does.

Aerial audits help identify where your building may struggle in the heat, so you can address issues early and avoid overworking your system all summer long.

A little preparation now can make a big difference later.

Some energy issues just can’t be seen from the ground.

With aerial audits, we’re able to take a full view of your building, identifying heat loss, insulation gaps, and performance issues that aren’t visible during a standard inspection.

In North Dakota, where temperatures can be extreme, even small inefficiencies can have a big impact.

Seeing the full picture helps you understand where improvements will make the biggest difference.

Every building has a story, you just need the right tools to see it.

With thermal aerial imaging, we’re able to “read” a building in a completely different way.

In this scan, we can identify:
• Areas where heat is escaping
• Variations in insulation performance
• Door seals and building envelope issues

From the ground, these problems aren’t always visible.
But over time, they can lead to higher energy costs and reduced comfort.

By examining the building this way, we’re able to pinpoint exactly where improvements can make the biggest impact.

At RJ Energy Solutions, it’s not about guessing, it’s about understanding.

North Dakota homeowners, are you losing energy without even realizing it?

In our climate, even small issues like air leaks, insulation gaps, or airflow problems can lead to higher energy bills and inconsistent comfort throughout your home.

The challenge is, most of these problems aren’t visible.

That’s where an energy audit comes in, helping you understand exactly where energy is being lost and what’s impacting your home’s performance.

Small inefficiencies can add up, but with the right insight, they can be fixed.
