October 4–10 is Fire Prevention Week, making it a great time to check in on the simple things we can all do to help protect our homes, businesses, and families from fire.

Taking a few minutes to test your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, check electrical cords and outlets for damage, keep flammable materials away from heat sources, clean lint buildup from your dryer and dryer vent, and making sure fire extinguishers are easily accessible can make a big difference.

It’s also important to have a fire escape plan in place and make sure everyone in your household knows what to do and where to go in an emergency. At Steamatic, we see firsthand how much damage fire, smoke, and soot can cause, which is why Fire Prevention Week is an important reminder to stay aware of potential hazards and take preventative steps before a problem occurs.

A little preparation can go a long way toward keeping the people and places that matter most safe.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our recent Continuing Education classes in Grand Forks and Fargo!

We always enjoy the opportunity to connect with local insurance professionals, share knowledge, and continue building relationships throughout the Red River Valley.

A lot goes into properly drying a structure, and protecting the home is just as important as the drying process itself.

On this job, our crew carefully installed containment throughout the area, covering the windows and protecting the floors, cabinets, and surrounding surfaces while work was being completed. We also created containment above the ceiling and directed dehumidified air into that space to help dry the affected structure where moisture can be harder to reach.

From sealing off each area to protecting the finishes throughout the home, attention to detail helps us control the drying environment while taking care of the property along the way.

When damaged materials need to come out, we take care of more than just the removal. Our crew handles the process from start to finish, including loading, hauling, and properly disposing of the materials we remove from your property.

Whether it’s drywall, insulation, flooring, cabinetry, or other damaged materials, we make sure everything is cleared out and taken care of. Our goal is to make the restoration process as easy as possible for our customers.

This staircase looks a lot different from where we started!

Before demolition begins, our team uses green tape to mark the areas where affected materials have been identified. These markings give our technicians a clear guide for what needs to be removed and what can stay.

As you can see in the after photos, the marked drywall was carefully removed to expose the structure behind it, allowing our team to remove areas that couldn't be saved, and continue the restoration process.

This job is all about protecting the details. Before work begins, our crew takes the time to carefully cover and tape off doors, trim, vents, flooring, stairs, and other finished surfaces throughout the home.

These extra steps help prevent dust, debris, and accidental damage while we work and make cleanup easier when the job is complete.

Proper preparation may not be the most noticeable part of a restoration project, but it’s an important part of treating every home with care.

Water damage isn’t always as obvious as water on the floor. Sometimes, the first signs are right above you.

Bubbling or sagging drywall, peeling paint, cracks, discoloration, and areas of the ceiling or walls that begin to separate can all be signs that moisture has made its way where it shouldn’t be.

Even a small change in the appearance of your walls or ceiling can be worth paying attention to, especially after heavy rain, a plumbing issue, or a roof leak.
