Some homes get built exactly as drawn. This is not one of those homes but the result was something stunning thanks to clients who knew exactly how they wanted to live.
It starts at the curb. Copper gutters, a brick stoop, and a brick lead walk with a classic paver look either grass growing between set the tone before you even reach the door. The full-glass front door is finished with an Emtek Hardware unlacquered brass entry set, materials that will only get richer with age.
Step inside and the entry opens up to light from every direction, accented by a striking metal railing system.
The family room sits where the dining room was originally planned, and the dining room took over the space first proposed as the family room. To make the swap work, our clients removed the fireplace from the main wall and replaced it with a run of Andersen Windows + Doors Pros windows, flooding the great room with natural light.
The lower level is a true accessory dwelling unit (ADU), designed to Arlington County’s standards with its own separate HVAC system, sound dampening between measures, and as much natural light as the main house. It’s a fully independent home under the same roof.
Every change was the product of collaboration to bring this client’s vision to life, and it sure turned out beautifully.
