One more operatory won’t solve a broken system. 🦷

If your schedule is overflowing and patients are waiting weeks for treatment, adding “just one more op” may only be a temporary fix... not a growth strategy.

➡️ More rooms can make you busier…
➡️ But better systems make you more productive.

Before tearing down walls or expanding your footprint, ask:
✔️ Are your clinical systems efficient?
✔️ Are your treatment rooms universal?
✔️ Are you maximizing provider productivity?
✔️ Could improved workflows open more capacity than another operatory?

Growth should be intentional, not another Band-Aid on inefficiency.

💰 Signing bonuses might help you hire… but they won’t help you retain great people.

The best dental employees aren’t just looking for more money; they want
✔️ Less daily stress
✔️ Better systems
✔️ A team they’re proud to be part of
✔️ A workplace that feels organized, supportive, and sustainable

Because culture alone can’t overcome chaos. 🦷

The practices winning today aren’t just filling positions. They’re creating environments people don’t want to leave.

Clean doesn’t have to mean cold.

We’re seeing more practices move toward minimal, calming spaces...but still craving warmth.

The balance? Natural elements.

Wood. Plants. Light. Texture.

It’s how you create a space that feels both clinical and comforting at the same time.

Bright enough for precision. Calming enough for peace of mind. ✨🦷

The Aurora LS was designed for more than just dentistry; it was designed for the patient experience. As the industry’s first fully integrated light combining full-room lighting, spot lighting, intraoral lighting, and integrated patient media into one sleek fixture, every appointment feels more comfortable, modern, and less clinical.

And for anxious patients? Having a TV overhead creates a powerful distraction that helps reduce stress, ease dental anxiety, and make longer procedures feel shorter and more relaxing. 📺💆‍♀️

Less clutter. Less stress. Better focus for clinicians and patients.

The best operatories are designed around two priorities:

1. Patient perception of space
2. Clinical efficiency.

As part of our , we create treatment rooms that feel calm, open, and uncluttered by keeping clinical supplies and instruments out of the patient’s immediate view. By eliminating bulky cabinetry and maximizing clear floor space, the room instantly feels larger and less intimidating.

Figure “A” represents a traditional 10-foot-wide operatory, where less than 5 feet of clear floor space remains between cabinetry. The result is a space that feels congested and limits mobilization, consultation, and technology integration.

Layout “B” increases obstruction-free floor space by nearly 18 inches while actually reducing the overall room width. Studies show that increasing visible open floor area creates the perception of a much more spacious environment, reducing patient anxiety and improving overall experience.

The benefits extend beyond perception. In traditional layouts, providers are forced to reach behind or to the side for instruments and supplies, increasing unnecessary movement and ergonomic strain. By relocating supplies to the zone of production near the patient’s mouth, we dramatically reduce range of motion, improve workflow efficiency, and enhance production speed.

Spring is the perfect time to step back and ask a critical question:

Is your dental practice supporting your team, or slowing them down?

At Design Ergonomics, we know that high-performing practices aren’t just built on clinical excellence; they’re built on intentional dental office design, efficient systems, and streamlined workflows.

That’s where the 5S Method for dental practices comes in.

Originally rooted in Lean principles, we’ve added a sixth “S” for what matters most this time of year:

SPRING: a reset into action.🌸
