Strong storms moved through parts of Central Indiana today and tonight bringing potential:
• Damaging wind gusts
• Hail
• Heavy rain
• Possible hidden roof damage

Not every roof automatically requires a full tear-off.

At StrongCo Construction, we normally recommend complete tear-offs for maximum longevity and to fully inspect the roof deck underneath. However, there ARE situations where a properly installed overlay roof system can be an acceptable and cost-saving option when requested by the homeowner.

This property owner specifically requested an overlay system for a rental property to help save on overall project costs, and the existing roof qualified because:

• Existing roof was a single layer of flat 3-tab shingles
• No active leaks prior to installation
• Roof decking showed no signs of rot or sagging
• Ventilation was already good
• Ice & water shield installed in valleys
• New vents and pipe boots installed
• Overall roof structure was solid and in good condition

A roof overlay should NEVER be used to hide:
✘ Rotten decking
✘ Soft spots
✘ Multiple existing layers
✘ Major curling shingles
✘ Structural sagging
✘ Moisture or ventilation issues

While a full tear-off is still the best option for maximum lifespan and full deck inspection, a professionally installed overlay CAN be acceptable in the right situation when the existing roof is flat, solid, and dry like this one was.

Every roof is different. We inspect each property individually and explain all available options honestly so homeowners can make the best decision for their budget and long-term goals.

⚠️ CENTRAL INDIANA WEATHER UPDATE – TOMORROW EVENING

Looks like a line of storms may move through Central Indiana tomorrow evening.

Nothing looks extreme right now, but we could see:
• 60–70+ MPH winds
• Some hail possible
• Heavy rain
• Isolated tornado risk

We’re a local company and just wanted to give people a heads up to be prepared.

Another one we had to fix the RIGHT way (Shelbyville)

This garage had work done just a couple years ago using standard pine trim… and it completely failed.

Once we opened it up, we found:
• Rotted framing
• Rotted sheathing
• Structural damage around the garage header

This wasn’t just cosmetic — it had to be rebuilt properly.

We:
✔️ Removed all rotted wood
✔️ Rebuilt framing where needed
✔️ Installed new plywood
✔️ Sealed everything correctly

Then upgraded everything with:
✔️ PVC trim (won’t rot)
✔️ OSI sealant for long-term protection
✔️ Replaced the porch post and wrapped it in PVC

Now it’s solid, sealed, and built to last 💪

👉 This is exactly why using cheap materials and shortcuts ends up costing more later.

If you’re seeing soft wood, cracking trim, or anything that looks questionable — don’t wait.
