Happy Fire Prevention Week!!
A few things worth checking this week for your home and business.
If you're a homeowner:
- Test your smoke detectors and swap the batteries if you haven't this year.
- Give extension cords a reality check — if one's been "temporary" for six months, it's time to move that to a real outlet.
- Clean out your dryer vent — not just the lint trap, the actual vent line running outside. Lint buildup there is one of the more common and preventable causes of house fires, and most people only ever clean the trap.
If you run a business:
- Make sure fire extinguishers are inspected and tagged current.
- Keep breaker panels and electrical rooms clear — no boxes or storage stacked in front of them.
- Have your HVAC ducts and equipment cleaned — dust buildup inside commercial duct systems is a real, often-overlooked fire risk.
- Check that exit signs and emergency lighting actually work, not just that they're installed.
Small habits make all the difference. We'll be here when you're ready for something more than a quick check!
