This is what eating the rainbow looks like and it’s so easy to do when you have a thriving garden! It’s so fun to create recipes inspired by the morning’s harvest. This is stir fried veggies (green beans, purple cabbage, zucchini, and peppers) over GF soba noodles with peanut sauce. Want the recipe? DM me!

Our pepper harvests are coming in strong this month. We planted 6 varieties, including both sweet and hot peppers, and we have been adding them to everything we make. Many of the peppers will be used to make all types of hot sauce. We will keep you updated on the process and include some recipes soon!

August is a time of growth & production, but it is also a time of transition in the garden. As the summer crops continue to produce, we are also planting cool season vegetables in the garden and starting seeds indoors and out. We can make this transition gradually or wait to do a full overhaul in September. Either method works in the organic garden as long as we tend to and amend our soil. What’s your favorite method for transitioning your garden seasonally?

I apologize for getting this posted so late this month!
We hope that your summer gardens are flourishing now that we are in mid-July. It’s a great time to add some nutrients (vegetable amendments) and worm castings to your garden. All of the summer, fruiting vegetables use a lot of nutrients from the soil to produce food and it’s time to replenish it.

Here are our general, short lists of what to plant this month in Marin County in the month of July. There is still some time to plant some last-minute summer veggies and it’s also time to get your cool season vegetables started! We are enjoying our tomatoes, cucumbers, and squash in Fairfax, but also planting out our cabbage and broccoli for fall. As always, there are vegetables that will thrive in various Marin microclimates and not in others (e.g. cooler coastal towns vs. inland north county towns). We love Golden Gate Gardening as a resource and if you would like more guidance we are happy to help!

Enjoy your summer gardens!

It’s April and it’s finally time to plant all of the warm season vegetables, herbs, and flowers! There are so many seedlings to plant as well as seeds that can be directly sown into the garden right now.

Before you plant your vegetables make sure your soil is full of nutrients to support these heavy-feeding edible plants. We like to add organic compost or worm castings, mychorrizal fungi, and an all purpose organic amendment mix to our soil before we plant.

It is also important to plan ahead with sturdy garden structures for vertical growing. Tomatoes, squash, cucumber, and other climbing vegetables benefit from a sturdy trellis placed deep in to the soil for strength.

What are you growing this season? Drop us a message telling us your favorite warm season varieties to grow in your garden.

March is a fun month in the kitchen garden! The pollinators are active, and the veggies are loving the warmth and light. Planting veggies, herbs, and flowers is keeping me busy. Plus, there’s many seeds to plant inside for the warmer season ahead.

Don't forget to make room for planting warm-season plants, like tomatoes and zucchini, in April and May. Planting quick-growing veggies now (greens, radishes, etc.) can be helpful, so you can harvest before your seasonal refresh. Here's to an exciting garden season!
