One of the oldest contracting companies in Western Pennsylvania, Fairchance Construction Company is located in southwestern Pennsylvania about 50 miles south of Pittsburgh. The family owned and operated company was founded in 1916. A fourth generation ownership, today Fairchance Construction still holds to the founding principles of delivering their customers with the highest quality construction in a timely and safe manner within budget. From hotels to apartment complexes to auto dealerships, through the years Fairchance Construction has been involved in a variety of projects throughout the United States. Currently, the company is licensed in numerous states on the east coast, including Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Ohio and Indiana.

A public library has to work for everyone who comes through the door.

The Ruth Enlow Public Library in Friendsville, Maryland, is one of the municipal projects Fairchance has completed outside of Pennsylvania.

A New Chapter for Friendsville | Ruth Enlow Public Library Ribbon Cutting

Some projects mean more than the buildings we construct. They become places where communities gather, generations connect, and memories are made.

Fairchance Construction was honored to join the people of Friendsville, Maryland, for the ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the new Ruth Enlow Public Library. Under beautiful skies, the community came together to dedicate a space that will serve and inspire generations to come.

The day was a wonderful reflection of the people and community spirit behind this project. From Mayor Spencer R. Schlosnagle and local board members whose dedication and support helped bring the project to life, to the Boy Scouts raising the American flag, local women presenting a specially quilted quilt, and musicians sharing songs celebrating Garrett County, every detail made the occasion special. Local government representatives, the library’s new librarian, and countless community members all played a part in making the celebration memorable.

Families enjoyed catered food, face painting, and crafts for the children, while others were already exploring the shelves and checking out books. It was a beautiful sight to see a new community space come to life before our eyes.

Representing Fairchance Construction, Vice President Zach Smitely and Project Manager Rick West were grateful to attend and share in this milestone with the community. Their presence represented the collective effort, teamwork, and commitment that go into delivering a project like this one.

At Fairchance Construction, we understand that every project comes with its challenges. But days like this remind us why we do what we do. It isn't simply about building structures. It's about creating places where people learn, connect, grow, and build memories for years to come.

Congratulations to Friendsville and everyone who helped make the Ruth Enlow Public Library a reality. We are honored to have played a part in building a place this community can call its own.

You shouldn't have to wait for steel to go up to see what your building will look like.

Fairchance uses virtual construction modeling with Autodesk Revit® and Butler® models to create 3D and 4D renderings early in a project. The 3D model shows you the building. The 4D model adds the schedule, so you can watch the construction sequence play out before crews ever reach the site.

That early view gives you time to question a layout, move a wall, or rethink a space while the change happens on a screen, not in the field.

The name on the sign has changed twice since 1880. The standard behind it hasn't.

The business started as McCormick Lumber Company in Fairchance, Pennsylvania. It was incorporated as Fairchance Lumber Company in 1916 and became Fairchance Construction Company in 1994.

Each new name reflected what the company had grown into, from supplying lumber to building complete facilities across southwestern Pennsylvania and well beyond it.

What carried through every version is the same: do the work right, stand behind it, and earn the next project on the strength of the last one.

🔨 EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT | ADAM FRANCZYK

At Fairchance Construction, great projects are built by great people—and today, we’re shining the spotlight on Adam Franczyk, Senior Project Manager, who has been part of the Fairchance Construction team since October 8, 2012.

Adam oversees projects from conception to completion, bringing together architects, engineers, contractors, subcontractors, and clients to keep projects moving forward safely, efficiently, and according to plan. But for Adam, the best part of the job goes beyond schedules and budgets.

"It is very satisfying watching a vision become reality—a building that stands as proof of months or years of coordination, planning, and persistence."

Adam thrives on bringing people together, solving problems under pressure, and seeing the lasting impact of the work Fairchance Construction does in the communities we serve.

When he’s not managing a construction project, you’ll likely find Adam playing golf or basketball, enjoying a concert with family and friends, or cheering on the WVU Mountaineers. He’s also a big fan of Sevendust and believes there’s nothing quite like a good hot Italian hoagie. 🌭

And when the construction day gets a little challenging, Adam keeps things in perspective:

"This isn't the worst day of work ever.....this is just the worst day of work so far." 😄

🔨 EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT | SCOTT CHIPPS

Some people learn construction by working in one trade. Others learn it by spending a lifetime around the entire building process. Scott Chipps is one of those people.

Scott’s story with Fairchance Construction began right out of high school in 1986. He worked with the company until 1999 before stepping out on his own and starting his own construction company, where he spent the next 22 years specializing in concrete and masonry work.

Those years gave Scott something you can’t teach in a classroom—experience. He gained an understanding of construction from the ground up while learning what it takes to run a business, manage projects, work with different trades, and get the job done right.

Eventually, Scott decided that he enjoyed the construction itself more than being the person behind the business. He returned to Fairchance Construction, where he has spent the past six years as a Superintendent, bringing decades of experience back to the team.

And when we say Scott knows a lot about a lot, we mean it.

His skills and knowledge allow him to communicate with virtually every trade on a job site and understand how all the different pieces of a project come together. He brings the kind of practical knowledge that comes from years of hands-on experience, problem solving, and simply being around construction for most of his life.

But Scott brings more than knowledge to the job site. He's friendly, dependable, hardworking, and always ready to get the job done. And if you've spent any time around Scott, you know there's usually a joke or two along the way. His sense of humor has a way of making a long day on the job site go by a little faster. 😄

After all these years, Scott has accumulated 19 years with Fairchance Construction, including his original time with the company and the six years since his return.

We're fortunate to have someone with Scott's experience, versatility, work ethic, and personality on our team.
