The heat can be hard on a newly planted landscape take a look at our watering tips and suggestions. The first year can be critical to your new landscape.

Caring for Your Newly Planted Trees - Shrubs - Perennials

Watering:

Insufficient water during the first season is the number one cause of plant failure. The limited root system of your new plants will cause them to dry out faster than established plants. New plantings need to be carefully monitored and watered thoroughly when the soil is dry to the touch, about 1 1/2 - 3 inches deep. Check regularly and only water when necessary.

Water at the base of the plant and give the plant enough water at a slow pace. Trickle and drip irrigation are beneficial for water conservation, plant health and good deep watering. Water must be deep to encourage a deep root system. At least 30 to 45 minutes of a slow trickle of water, or a sprinkler, near the root ball is needed to soak the root ball.
