Staircases aren’t just stairs. They’re where life happens. Carrying a baby up and down, watching them figure out how to crawl on their tummy, racing down for game night, or later, stepping out for graduation.

As builders, we don’t just frame steps. We create the spaces where memories stick. Every board, every detail, every step matters.

In the end, it’s not just a staircase. It’s part of that family's story.

Spaces like this happen when craftsmanship meets a fearless design eye. A little pattern, a little color, and suddenly a bathroom becomes more than functional, it becomes memorable.

The best homes more than well built. They’re thoughtfully layered by people who know how to balance strength with beauty.

This Honey Hill home has officially entered its chicken pox era. Red marks everywhere. On the trim. On the walls. On the doors. Probably a few places I haven’t even found yet.

No, the house is not sick. We’re in that stage of the build where every little thing gets marked, fixed, and marked again.

It’s not exactly the prettiest look, but it’s how you get from “almost done” to actually done.

The good news? These chicken pox clear up faster than the real thing.

You can’t see good insulation when the house is finished. But you’ll feel the difference.

Walking through Forest Frame after the insulation went in, you can finally start to see one of the layers that will make this home perform the way it was designed to.

For a home like this, with its unique architecture and carefully considered spaces, comfort matters just as much as the finishes.

ROCKWOOL helps with thermal performance, sound control, and fire resilience, creating a quieter, more comfortable home behind the walls.

This is one of those parts of the build that disappears when we’re done.

But it matters every day you live here.

A look behind the build. This Lake Shore home has been complete for a while now and the homeowners are fully settled in, enjoying it the way it was meant to be lived in.

What never gets old is what happens before drywall. The planning inside the walls that no one sees.

When the clients wanted a cedar ceiling that ran the full length of the home and continued seamlessly to the exterior, it shifted the entire electrical strategy. This was about precision. Protecting the design. Thinking ahead so nothing distracts from the architecture.

Where do fixtures land?
How do we conceal wiring without compromising the ceiling detail?
How do we make it feel effortless?

That level of ex*****on only happens when the trades, designer, architect, and builder are aligned from day one. The coordination behind the walls is what makes a home perform.

This week’s Week in the Life took a bit of a turn. One minute we’re sponsoring cross-country racing, the next we’re learning to shoot clay pigeons.

A little business, a little adventure, and a good reminder that life’s more fun when you’re willing to try something new.

When you think about wellness in a home, water probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. It should be.

At , we looked at wellness from the ground up. Air quality. Materials. Natural light. Recovery spaces. And something every person in the house interacts with every single day: water.

That led us to Naia and a bigger conversation about what healthy home building actually means.

The best wellness features aren’t always the ones you notice first. Sometimes they’re the systems working quietly behind the walls.

I wrote about why we chose Pentair Naia for Mysa Hus and why I think water deserves more attention in custom home design.

I’ve been building homes for more than 20 years, but I realized something recently. A lot of you probably know the houses better than you know the guy building them.

So, it felt like time to reintroduce myself.

I’m Mark D. Williams. Builder, dad, third generation builder, and someone who still gets genuinely excited about a good project and the people behind it.

I care about craftsmanship, thoughtful design, wellness, and the details that make a house feel like home.

And I’m still curious. Probably more curious than I was 20 years ago.

Swipe through to get to know the guy behind the homes.

Staircases and fireplaces are two elements of a home that anchor the entire space.

They set the tone.
They guide how you move through the home.
They’re the features that quietly shape the experience of living there.

When designed with intention, they become more than transitions or focal points. They create flow, warmth, and a sense of permanence.

The before and after is a reminder that craftsmanship, proportion, and restraint make all the difference.

A house can be beautifully built and still feel like a house. It’s the details that start to change that.

In this kids bedroom at , helped bring together the textures, furnishings, fabrics, and layers that make the space feel warm, comfortable, and personal.

A bedroom like this should feel like more than a place to sleep. It should feel like a place to grow up.

That same attention to detail and thoughtful design is what makes the Francis King Mini Market such a valuable gathering for our industry.

On November 10, I’ll be joining Francis King for their Biennial Mini Market at IMS, including a keynote conversation with designer Suzanne Kasler. More than 250 designers and industry professionals are expected to attend, making this a great opportunity to connect, learn, and talk about where our industry is headed next.

If you’re a designer, architect, builder, or industry professional, I’d love to see you there.
