I know the beetle flight happened earlier this year. I found MPB in a log I peeled just yesterday though. Was it a mature beetle layover from last year? Or was it a new adult first strike from this year? What I do know definitely,is that it’s not a one season process as may be advertised. I have watched them take trees, slowly over the course of multiple seasons. This tree appeared to be killed a season or two earlier. Yet here they are. It’s dead. Has been for a season or two . It still has needles though and enough moisture to produce pitch tubes. It also still has active MPB though. I wish that the Colorado State Forest service and the local county beetle task force that we have in place would consider some other state research about the beetle attack versus the beetle flight.
