*****Please Pay Attention*****

Please pay attention to what you’re throwing in the recycling bin. If you zoom in on these pictures you will see clothing and cardboard and plastic bags. The last time we sent our recycling over the recycling company wouldn’t take it due to contaminates. We were sure they were wrong because we monitor the bin with cameras and staff tries to pull out contaminates. They also charged the island $800. As we go about trying to save money and generate new income this is a fee we do not want to incur. Please take note and take more caution when putting in your recycling. There are signs that show what can be deposited into the dumpster. Please abide by those rules.

What a wonderful turnout yesterday for Bob Lalone's memorial. I wanted to share this poem that they handed out. It sums up living on an island, and in my mind, Hat Island. Rest in Peace Bob.

If ever you've lived on an island
if ever you've lived by the sea;
You'll never return to the mainland
once your spirit is set free.

If ever you've smelled the ocean
or tasted the salt in the air;
You'll know you've discovered a haven
that is uncommon, precious and rare.

If ever you've seen the whales play
or watched the eagles in flight;
You'll remember, again, why you live here
and why it feels so right.

If ever you've seen the sunset
as the ferry passed the shore;
You've seen the beauty of the island
that will be with you forever more.

If ever you've heard teh seagulls
the waves, a foghorn, the winds;
Then you've heard the song of the island
and the peacefgul message it sends.

Indeed, if you live on an island
if you're lucky to live by the sea;
You'll never return to the mainland
as your spirit has been set free.

Snohomish County has rescinded the burn ban. If you need to obtain a burn permit you may stop by the office during office hours, 8-4.

It is with a heavy heart that we let everyone know that Bob Lalone passed away last week. A full time resident and long time owner, Bob was a fixture on the island. We will miss him and our hearts are with his family. There will be a memorial for Bob this coming Sunday, October 4th at 12:00pm at Bayside Marine.
