This week's Hard Hat Hero is Nick Behrman! Nick is an Electricial Foreman who has been with us for 2 years. He primarily works on projects for one of our local industrial facilities and his days start out obtaining work permits and lining out his crew on what tasks need to be accomplished.

Nick says he likes to keep things lighthearted and fun around the jobsite as much as he can while still efficiently putting in the work that needs to be done and maintaining safety protocols. Having a good, fun rapport with your team is important and we value creating good working relationships with our crews and our customers. Another thing he enjoys about the work he does is the wide variety of tasks that being an electrician often demands.

The project that stands out as most memorable to Nick is the fire pond pump building we did for one of our customers. This was Deig's first significant electrical project for this customer and we are proud of Nick and his crew for going above and beyond to make sure the project was a success and the customer was happy.

Nick didn't want to share any specific stories from out in the field, but he does say that he really enjoys the overall comradery we have here at Deig Bros. He says everyone he has worked with in his time here has been great to get along with and we all try to help each other out and he really appreciates that.

Nick has been married to his wife, Katelyn for 8 years and they have three beautiful daughters. Hallie is 6, Ellie is 4, and Sadie is 5 months old. In his time off, Nick enjoys spending time with his family and playing with his kids. He also enjoys going on side by side rides with his friends and family, tinkering on antique tractors, hunting, fishing, and gardening.

Thank you, Nick for all the hard work you put in for us at Deig Bros. You are a big part of what helps us create that friendly and helpful atmosphere on the jobsites and we certainly appreciate the dedication. Congratulations on being this week's Hard Hat Hero!

This week, we would like to congratulate Kyle Capin on being our Deig Bros Hard Hat Hero!

Kyle has been with us for over two years and is one of our Mechanical Estimators/Project Managers. A typical day for Kyle usually begins at our job sites to help make sure his crews get started on the right track. He meets with both Deig employees as well as our customers to make sure everyone has what they need from him for the day.

What he likes most about his job is the awesome group of Deig employees he gets to work with along with what we consider to be the best customers in the business. He especially acknowledges the uniqueness of the projects he gets to be a part of ranging across several different local industries, no two days are the same. Kyle also says no other company he has worked for has ever compared to the quality of the teams he has been a part of with Deig. We are all willing to work together and help make sure the job is done right and that is something Kyle really appreciates.

The one project he has been a part of that stands out the most was a fire pond pump replacement at one of the local industries. Kyle's crew installed a new pump and shelter with an intake structure that had to be placed in the pond. They had to do a little thinking outside the box to get the logistics on this project just right, which included hiring an underwater dive team to assist in setting the structure. Once the job was complete and the structure passed all testing and inspections, that pump was put to a real test that same night. According to the fire chief and on-site staff, the fire suppression system has never worked as well as it does now and that is something that can bring peace of mind to the entire community and something Kyle and his team take a lot of pride in accomplishing.

Some of Kyle's favorite workplace stories stem from being part of a group of employees who took a Dale Carnegie Leadership Training class. The connections he made though that class, and the bonding that it created among he and his co-workers is something he will cherish for a lifetime. It is a rare thing to form true friendships with co-workers and to be able to be authentically yourself and genuinely enjoy yourself at work, but that is a theme that resonates with so many of our employees here.

Outside of work, Kyle has been married to his lovely wife, Kim, for 11 years. They have an 8-year-old son who is on track to being as tall as his dad. (which is TALL in case you didn't know) They love to travel to Florida and enjoy the beach and being on the water from fishing to pleasure boating to just floating around. Other than being on the water, Kyle enjoys tinkering around in his barn on trucks and small engines.

Thank you, Best Friend, Kyle for being such a dedicated, hardworking part of the Deig Bros team. We are proud to honor you this week as our Hard Hat Hero!

You all enjoyed last week's so much, I decided to try and make this a regular occurance.

I dug into the treasure vault and found these photos of us doing some concrete work at Stockwell Elementary School in April, 1978.

According to Google, Stockwell Elementary was completed in 1971, so I can only assume that the exterior footprint was updated in 1978 to add the concrete footpaths you see here. If anyone has first hand knowledge or different information, please chime in. Also if you recognize anyone in the pictures, please tag them or their family.

This week we would like to introduce Eric TenBarge as our Hard Hat Hero!

Eric is an Electrical Foreman and has been with us for three years. A typical day on the job includes discussing with the guys the tasks that need to be completed, finding the most efficient way to get the job done, and then executing the work together in a safe and professional manner. Planning out the next part of the project and layout are crucial to the everyday tasks that keep the job moving smoothly. Eric says, "Deig Brothers has a very talented group of electricians. Whether they are in the field, the shop, or the office, everybody carries a vital role to accomplish what has been carried on for so many years. The knowledge, work ethic, and values that have been passed down through the years are what makes Deig Brothers special."

His favorite part of being an electrician is that it is a constantly evolving career that is very rewarding and changing daily. The challenges of staying on top of the changes make it rewarding with each job that is completed. Working with new customers and building relationships is a very fulfilling part of the job as well.

Outside of work, Eric has been married to his wife Morgan for 11 years. He has three children, Braxton, Brinley, and Beckett who attend St. Joseph Catholic School. His hobbies include anything outdoors from gardening, camping, coaching, to attending his kids’ activities. Most importantly, the thing he is most proud of is being a devoted husband and father.

Eric says, "It truly feels like a team here, and I’m grateful to be part of a company that has that kind of family atmosphere. I’m grateful for the opportunity to be part of the Deig Brothers team and to contribute to what makes this company feel like a family." To that we say, thank you Eric for the kind words and the dedication and hard work you bring to our team. Congratulations on being this week's Hard Hat Hero!

Good morning and Happy Friday, everyone!

I wanted to introduce myself as the face behind the Deig Bros page. I’m Tabatha Helmick, Project Coordinator at Deig Bros. I keep getting asked when I’ll be the Hard Hat Hero, but bragging about myself like I do my coworkers feels a little weird, so instead, I decided to introduce myself today, on my 50th birthday! šŸŽ‰

I’ve been with Deig Bros for about 7½ years, and my role has changed quite a bit over that time. My main responsibility is supporting our estimators by documenting the paperwork that keeps their projects moving forward, from purchase orders and subcontracts to material/equipment submittals and O&M manuals. I’ve also picked up a few side quests over the years, including handling our construction project management software, attending bid openings, keeping our entire fleet’s registrations up to date, and managing our asset protection devices. Like everyone in this office, we all pretty much do whatever is needed to get the job done!

What I love most about working here is that no two days are alike. I get to be involved behind the scenes in so many parts of our projects, from uploading drawings for jobs we’re bidding to preparing O&M manuals for our customers when a job is complete. I’ve been proud to be part of so many projects that choosing a favorite is tough, but I keep coming back to the Sunset Skate Park on the riverfront. I grew up when skating was huge and had friends and family who loved skateboarding and rollerblading, so seeing how many people enjoy that park when I drive by it every day (and knowing I had a small hand in helping bring it together) makes me especially proud.

Outside of work, I’ve been married to my best friend, Chris, for six years. We’ve actually known each other for about 37 years. He was my first crush, but we never dated each other until 2016. I have three sons: Justin, my oldest, is married to his high school sweetheart, Holly, whom I proudly claim as my daughter. My middle son, Christian, is engaged to Kasandra, another wonderful future daughter-in-law I plan to claim. And my youngest, William, is still at home with Chris and me. He just turned 16 and is a talented musician who performs in his high school band and taught himself to play piano beautifully.

When I’m not at work, you’ll usually find me in my backyard oasis enjoying nature. I love watching the birds, deer, and whatever other woodland creatures decide to stop by. I’m also a huge music fan and love going to concerts. I’ve probably been to close to 100 shows. I love to sing too, so you’ll often find me singing around the house, in the car, or occasionally at a karaoke bar. šŸ˜‚

I hope you’ve enjoyed this little ā€œget to know meā€ session. Now you know a little more about the person behind the scenes of all these posts!

~Tabatha

On this rainy Throwback Thursday, we thought it would be appropriate to go all the way back to 1976 when Deig Bros assisted the City of Evansville Levee Authority and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the construction of part of the Pigeon Creek Levee.

The area in the photos (we believe) is the Gatewell section of the project that is situated near the confluence of where Pigeon Creek meets the Ohio River. These photos from our archives were developed at Schmitt Photo and are dated 8-1-1976.

The Pigeon Creek Levee is part of our city's major flood protection system. It is approximately 17 miles long and contains raised earthen embankments as well as concrete floodwalls and pump stations to help protect the city from the Ohio River.

Deig Bros is very proud of the work we have done over the decades to help protect and preserve the City of Evansville.

This week we would like to recognize Dirk Euler as our Hard Hat Hero!

Dirk is a Pipefitter General Foreman and has worked for us for the last 2 and a half years. He spends his days getting started by discussing with his crew what work needs to be done and filling out JSA reports and assigning tasks to everyone for the day. Once they get their permits, he checks to make sure everyone has what they need and gets to work helping out with pipefitting and welding as needed along with checking in with the crew throughout the day to make sure everything is running smoothly.

What he likes most about his job is a job well done. Dirk takes a lot of pride in completing a project safely, and on time. One that he is most proud to have been a part of is one they did for one of our refinery customers last year during a shutdown. They were tasked with performing x-ray welds on a short schedule and were able to get it done on time with zero detects. This was an impressive result considering there were a large number of pipefitters to oversee and it involved a lot of overtime.

One memory that stands out the most for Dirk is having a pizza party at the end of that big project last year. Kyle Capin put that together for them to congratulate them on a job well done and it was certainly appreciated by everyone.

Dirk and his wife, Beth have two sons, Aaron and Adam. Aaron and his wife, Mackenzie have two sons and Adam and his fiancƩe, Mackenzie plan to marry next June. In his free time, he enjoys hunting, fishing, and playing softball.

Thank you Dirk for all the hard work you put in for us and our customers. We appreciate all you do for Deig Bros. Congratulations on being this week's Hard Hat Hero!
