Grateful for a very exciting week, this past week with all the buzz about the resiliency my Indiana Dunes Net Zero Passive House project received for how the house ran as it is supposed to even during the weeks of power outages in NW Indiana in mid august from the severe weather they experienced. Friends, tomorrow, Saturday October 3rd is the big day. My Indiana Dunes Net Zero Passive House will be one of just a few homes in the state of Indiana, with its doors open on the ASES National Solar Home Tour. I'll be there from 10am-2pm to show you around; point out the high performance building techniques we used; and answer your questions.

The Power of Passive House!

Wanted to share some great news today. As you know we had some horrific storms over the past few weeks which knocked out power for most of the Indiana Dunes area. I just got off the phone with my client of our Indiana Dunes Net Zero Passive House project to see how she faired. She shared, "I didn't even know our power was out for a week".

The combination of a super-insulated and air-tight shell along with a PV solar panel array on her south sloping roof, with battery system, the house was fully powered for this down week. Food in the refrigerator was fine, in fact neighbors brought over their foods to store in her freezer. 3 other neighbors moved in to her house for a few days, awaiting their power to come back on. Everyone was comfortable, living life as normal.

With climate change upon us; upgrading building techniques that focus on "resilience" is the way to go for now and the future. We've been building smart, resilient, eco-friendly homes for over 10 years now, each new house out performing the previous as technologies and techniques continue to evolve. Our goals for this project, put to the test, and passed with flying colors!

Want to share a recent webinar series I completed on the hot topic of "Forever Homes". My past few clients have been women in their 70's wanting to design the last home they know they will be living in. Important goals for each were: Aging-In-Place strategies; superior indoor air quality (IAQ); the home to reflect their environmental and energy efficiency values; no maintenance exterior; efficient spacial design with room to entertain and host overnight guests: custom spaces for their hobbies and the design making it easy to care for their dogs.

Here's the first chapter as an introduction. You'll find a link to the next chapter at the bottom of each video's webpage to complete the series. Hoping this answers many of the questions that come with how one's home can support folks in their golden years through all the next stages and needs, especially mobility.
