🤍 Pregnancy & Infant Loss Remembrance Day
In June 2017, we lost a baby we had prayed for, hoped for, and loved, but never had the chance to meet.
After three years of trying to conceive, we had begun surrendering our plans for a family to God’s will. We desperately wanted to become parents, but we were learning to trust Him regardless of the outcome.
One morning, Jeremy was reading Scripture about Elizabeth conceiving John the Baptist and the reminder that nothing is impossible with God. He marked the passage in his Bible and prayed.
That evening, I showed him a positive pregnancy test.
We were overjoyed.
We heard our baby’s heartbeat. We dreamed about the future. And then, at another appointment, there was no heartbeat.
We left heartbroken. Sitting in the parking lot with my mother, we prayed. We didn’t understand why, but we trusted that God was still with us.
We called our baby Hope.
Jeremy once asked, “How do I love someone so much when I never even knew their name?”
We never knew Hope. But we loved Hope.
This photographs was taken as we released a lantern in memory of our baby. It was one small way of honoring a life that had already changed ours.
That September, we learned we were expecting again.
We were grateful, but terrified. We waited to announce our pregnancy because we knew how quickly everything could change.
Hope would have been due December 30, 2017. As that day approached, we watched friends welcome their babies while we carried both the joy of another pregnancy and the grief of our loss.
In May 2018, Liam was born. Our rainbow baby. And in October 2020, God blessed us with Kallie.
Our children have brought us immeasurable joy, but neither replaced Hope.
Looking back, we see how God carried us through the heartbreak, uncertainty, and fear. We didn’t always understand His plans, but we never walked through them alone.
We’ve learned that faith doesn’t mean we won’t experience suffering. Sometimes faith means trusting God when our hearts are breaking.
And while our story continued with two beautiful children, we know that isn’t everyone’s journey. We don’t believe another child erases the one you’ve lost.
To every mother and father who has experienced miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant loss: Your baby mattered. Your love matters. And your story matters.
Today, and always, we remember Hope. 🤍
