Lesser known TeaLAB fact: Luke, the founder and owner of TeaLAB, likes to spend time in the water, even catching a wave or two if he's lucky. Through the month of September, he, and thousands of other surfers from around the world are committing to surf every single day, all for a radical cause.

SurfAid is a non-profit program that raises money for impoverished communities in far-off surf spots. Luke and TeaLAB just made a donation that will be used to supply a family with seeds and supplies to start a food garden. Epic.

This is true from not only the poetic perspective, but also the scientific. Light energy is captured during photosynthesis and stored in glucose's carbon bonds. Single glucose molecules are then linked together into chains of starch, and then that starch is stored in root tissue. Hence, light is kept deep in the root.
