For this Eugene residence, we designed a series of warm, connected spaces grounded in its Pacific Northwest setting. Natural materials, expansive glazing, thoughtful craftsmanship, and carefully considered roof forms work together to bring the surrounding landscape into the experience of the home.

The Eugene Weekly’s "Best of Eugene" voting round is officially underway, and we’d be honored if you’d consider voting for Richard Shugar of 2FORM Architecture for Best Architect!

Why Richard?
Here’s what the 2FORM team has to say:

“He's genuinely one of the most talented designers in Eugene, but that's not even what makes him the best architect. Its the relationships he maintains and love he has for everyone involved. Great architect and even better person.” - Matt

"Richard has built a workplace where people are encouraged to pursue the things that matter to them -whether that’s creative hobbies, community involvement, family, or sports. His ability to see people as individuals and uplift them is what makes him such a great leader, and truly, the best architect around. He brings that same care and understanding to the people and communities he designs for."
- Brooke

Vote for Richard Shugar for Best Architect! And remember: Eugene Weekly requires votes in 10 or more categories for your ballot to count.

Excited to share that 2FORM Architecture is a Silver Level Sponsor of the 2026 Eugene Young Professionals Summit!

As architects and designers, we spend our days thinking ahead - how the buildings we design perform, how they reduce energy consumption, and how they can contribute to healthier, happier lives. It's a mindset built on looking forward.

We share that same mindset for our profession, too. Backing the next wave of young professionals, designers, and architects is how we build a stronger future for Eugene and beyond. That’s why being part of the YP Summit is so meaningful to us.

We'll have a table set up at the summit, and we'd love to meet you there. Come say hi, get to know the team at 2FORM, and learn what drives our work!

See you September 17th at the Graduate Eugene!

The kitchen can be one of the most tailored spaces in your home.

At 2FORM Architecture, we think about how you move through the space: where you enter with groceries, the relationship between the pantry and refrigerator, and how the sink, cooktop, and prep areas come together to create an intuitive workflow.

We consider ergonomics, too. Custom counter heights, raised dishwashers, accessible storage, and cabinetry designed around your range of motion can make a meaningful difference in how a space works for you.

And finally, we bring it all together with finishes that are easy to maintain, timeless, and personal.

Whether your kitchen is a place for focused cooking, family life, or gathering with friends, the best kitchens are should be designed around you.

2FORM Architecture Promotes Kira Malone and Aaron Whitney to Principal

Eugene, Oregon — August 25th, 2026

2FORM Architecture, an award-winning, innovative, and sustainable architecture firm based in Eugene, Oregon, is pleased to announce the promotion of Kira Malone, Architect, and Aaron Whitney, Architect, to the role of Principal. These promotions recognize two of the firm’s most accomplished leaders and reflect 2FORM’s continued growth and commitment to excellence in design.
“Kira and Aaron embody everything that 2FORM stands for,” said Richard Shugar, Principal Architect and founder of 2FORM Architecture. “Their deep expertise, creative problem-solving, and dedication to clients have shaped some of our most meaningful work. Elevating them to Principal is a natural and well-deserved step.”

Kira Malone, AIA, LEED Green Associate
Kira Malone is a registered architect with a Master of Architecture from the University of Oregon (2010) and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Maryland (2005). As Director of Interiors, Kira is a driving force behind some of 2FORM’s most complex and impactful work. A versatile designer with a broad skill set, Kira balances creative vision with meticulous project management.

At the heart of her work is a deep understanding of how spaces shape the human experience. With specialized expertise in trauma-informed design, Kira strives to create built environments that foster healing, safety, and dignity. She is particularly interested in the temporal qualities of architecture: the interplay of light and shadow throughout the day, the way a building reveals itself through the choreography of movement, and how materials certain materials become more beautiful as they patina with age.

Aaron Whitney, AIA
Aaron Whitney is a licensed architect and University of Oregon BARCH graduate (1995) with 31 years of experience spanning design, construction, and project management. He has worked across new construction, remodels, and adaptive reuse projects in both public and private sectors, with specialized depth in medical facility design. His project credits include work for Evergreen Family Medicine and Veterans Affairs.

Aaron’s philosophy is rooted in his early years doing carpentry work alongside his father, an experience that shaped his view of the architect as a Master Builder. He is drawn to timeless, minimally processed materials—wood, stone, and glass—and approaches each project with the conviction that enduring design lives in the details.

Dreaming of ocean views? Meet the Brookings beach House, a coastal retreat in Southern Oregon designed by 2FORM Architecture.

Located on the inland side of Highway 101, the Brookings Beach House is a single-family residence in the idyllic city of Brookings. Since the house is adjacent to a major highway and less than 1000 feet from the ocean, insulated concrete forms were used to construct the walls. These walls serve to minimize the sound from the highway as well as to provide maximum strength to withstand the Pacific winds.

The compact floor plan sits on a small, irregularly-shaped lot. To take advantage of the views to the ocean, the main living area is on the second floor. The main bedroom is above the living area, in a third floor loft.

Covered exterior decks and balconies allow the residents to enjoy the outdoors in all weather conditions. The living room shares a look-through gas fireplace with the outdoor patio. Exposed beams and joists are featured throughout the interior of the residence, adding to the home’s warmth.

Construction Update — Ridgeline Residence

Credit where credit is due: our client has an incredible eye for design. From the very beginning, the vision for this home centered around a soft, neutral palette that would allow the architecture, materials, and textures to take center stage.

One of our favorite examples of that approach is the tile throughout the home. Each selection brings its own tactile character through variation, pattern, finish, and texture. It’s a beautiful reminder that a neutral space doesn’t have to feel understated.

We’re loving how the Ridgeline Residence is coming together!

Have you ever driven past a home and thought, "that house could only exist there"?

It's not an accident. Homes like that take real work to create, and they're almost always designed by architects. Architects spend years training to make thoughtful choices for your unique property. Choices like where to place a window so it frames a distant peak. How to place a home on a steep hillside. Or how to slope a metal roof so it can stand up to heavy winter rain, intense summer sun, and even floating embers during wildfire season.

That's the kind of thinking behind Le Bleu Addition, pictured here.
