Business Growth in Action!

Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend the Business Building Workshop Growth Club, hosted by Matt Bresee of Action Coach Business Coaching. It was a phenomenal day filled with collaboration, learning, and real growth-focused conversations.

One of the highlights was hearing from our incredible guest speaker, Brian Slawin of Ben Franklin Technology Partners, who brought powerful insights and inspiration.

It was also great to see some of my fellow BNI Flagship Chapter members in attendance. The event was held at the Penn State Behrend Knowledge Park, an awesome setting for a day dedicated to personal and professional development.

Events like this remind me how motivating it is to see business owners investing time in themselves—sharpening their understanding of finances, setting goals, and putting actionable plans in place.

Big thank you to everyone who made the day possible—it was both motivating and enlightening!

How to Help Prevent Mold in Your Basement

Basements can be one of the most common areas for mold growth—but the good news is, there are ways to help stop it before it starts.

✅ Dehumidification is key.
Many homeowners use small 30-pint dehumidifiers in large basements, which often isn’t enough. If your basement is big, you may need two units—one on each end. And if you’re closing off rooms with doors, each of those areas may need its own dehumidifier to keep humidity under control.

✅ Watch your foundation.
Water stains or bubbling paint on your basement walls are warning signs of water building up inside your block walls. A foundation professional can help with solutions like a French drain or sump pump to relieve that pressure.

✅ Check your downspouts.
If your downspouts go straight into the ground, they may be clogging and pushing water right back toward your foundation. Consider cutting and rerouting them to discharge water away from the house.

✅ Basement bathrooms matter.
If you have a shower in your basement, make sure the exhaust fan is vented outside the home—not just into the basement—so excess moisture doesn’t add to the problem.

These steps can go a long way toward keeping your basement dry and mold-free.

🌟 Employee Spotlight: Matthew Pietras 🌟

At Absorb & Restore, family is at the heart of what we do — and today we’re proud to spotlight one of our own, Matthew Pietras, Zachary’s youngest brother.

Matthew is a true bright light in our company. Every single day he shows up with a smile, a positive attitude, and a great sense of humor that keeps the whole team laughing. He’s dedicated to learning his craft, always eager to expand his knowledge, and committed to understanding the ins and outs of the restoration industry.

Currently, Matthew is certified in Air Duct Cleaning with the Rotobrush Beast DR and is actively working toward additional certifications in Water Restoration and Applied Structural Drying. His drive to keep learning and growing inspires everyone around him.

Outside of the restoration world, Matthew is going through the process of MEPS as he prepares to join the United States Navy. (Even though his brother Zachary still wishes he’d pick the Air Force 😉, we couldn’t be prouder of Matt’s decision to serve his country.)

We are so thankful to have Matthew as part of our Absorb & Restore family and look forward to seeing his continued success — both in the restoration industry and in his journey ahead with the Navy. 💪🇺🇸
