Two big checks came out after the round at Foxchase on Friday.

Adamstown Fire Company and Susquehanna Church of Christ in Marietta are this year's Great Roof Giveaway recipients. The Gooding Group Foundation awarded each $5,000 toward roof repairs, and our crews will do the work. At the firehouse, that means new flashings around the heat stacks and HVAC unit. At the church, it's new edging and counter flashing on the low slope roof, where the leaks have been. Adamstown was also a 2018 recipient, and we're glad to be working with them again.

The outing also raised $2,800 for the Alzheimer's Association, and the Foundation is adding $10,000 to it. The Lancaster Walk to End Alzheimer's is this Saturday, September 26, at Greenfield (1853 William Penn Way). If you'd like to support it, you can donate to our team, GSM Memory Marchers, here: https://act.alz.org/site/TR?fr_id=19889&pg=team&team_id=1104459

Earlier in the week, part of our team spent a shift behind the food counter with the [Denver/Reinholds] Lions Club at the Denver Fair.

Thank you to everyone who golfed, sponsored, and helped out last week.

And more storms are in the forecast this week.

Here’s the thing about wind damage: lifted flashing, loosened fasteners, and displaced membrane often don’t leak right away. They leak during the next storm. If you own or manage a building anywhere we serve, it’s worth knowing what this weekend did before the next round arrives.

Active leak right now? Call us at 800-532-ROOF. We answer emergency roof calls 24 hours a day. Not leaking yet but want it checked? Our crews get up on the roof and inspect it directly, with drones to reach what you can’t see from the ground.

Homeowners too, give us a call and we’ll help you sort it out.

We’ve handled roofs across PA, NJ, DE, and MD since 1946, through storms worse than this. Stay safe out there.

In 1946, J. Fred Gooding sold his car to buy materials for his first roofing job and hitchhiked to the site. Eighty years and three generations later, the company he started is still family-run, still here in Ephrata, and still putting crews on roofs across PA, MD, DE, and NJ.

This Fourth of July, we're thinking about the things that get built slowly and last: a country, a trade, a business where more than 100 of our people have stayed 25 years or longer.

Happy Independence Day from all of us at GSM Roofing. Be safe, enjoy the people around you, and we'll see you back at it next week.

Five days. A president's roof, a fight against Alzheimer's, a team measured in decades, and a standard we will not bend.

That is National Roofing Week at GSM, and it is a fair picture of who we are the other 51 weeks too. Thank you for following along, and thank you to the people who make this work worth doing.

Same standard next week. And the week after that.

A roof does not fail because someone lacked good intentions. It fails because someone was not trained.

That is why training never really ends here. New installers learn from people who have done the work for decades, and the standard does not bend. It shows up in our credentials too: GAF GoldElite, the highest tier they award, plus membership in the NRCA, NERCA, and the National Slate Association.

Around here we say it plainly. Safety is the most important tool in our belt. Happy National Roofing Week to the crews who keep learning.

Roofing is a trade that burns through people. More than 100 of ours have stayed 25 years or longer.

That number is not an accident, and it is not common. It means the crew on your building has been doing this for decades, not for a season. It means the person solving a problem on your roof has probably already seen it twice.

Today, for National Roofing Week, we are saying thank you to the people who stayed. You are the company.

Every September, the morning after our golf outing, our team puts on purple shirts and walks together. We walk in memory of John and Mary Gooding.

John, our second-generation owner, and his wife Mary were both lost to Alzheimer's and dementia. That is why our Customer Appreciation Golf Outing has come to mean so much to us. Last year it raised more than $20,000 for the Alzheimer's Association, and the Gooding Group Foundation matched contributions up to $50,000. The next day, we joined the Walk to End Alzheimer's.

The same event runs our Great Roof Giveaway, which gave Latta Memorial Presbyterian Church $13,970 in repairs at no cost. The 2026 contest is open now. If you know a nonprofit with a roof that needs help, entries are open through August 10.

GSM Roofing and The Gooding Group Foundation are proud to give back to our local nonprofit organizations through our annual Great Roof Giveaway contest.

The home of a United States president needed a new slate roof, and they called us.

Wheatland, built in 1828, was where James Buchanan lived. When its slate roof began to fail, LancasterHistory needed someone who could make it last another century without changing how it looked. We chose North Country slate, rated past 100 years, and had every piece cut to match the original.

It is National Roofing Week, and this is the kind of work we are proud to start it with. More all week.

There is a church on Cameron Avenue in Tyrone, Pennsylvania that has been standing since 1886.

St. Matthew Roman Catholic Church has watched over Blair County for nearly 140 years. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. And this spring, our team had the privilege of restoring its Vermont Gray slate roof the right way.

We found what a previous contractor had left behind: silicone caulk smeared across cracked slate joints, and sections of the roof installed without proper head lap. The geometry that makes a slate roof watertight had simply been ignored.

Our Master Pro Certified Installer Dave Hoffer and his apprentice Cole Essel corrected every failure. Proper installation. Matched material. Copper snow guards. A custom copper ridge cap that will protect this roof for decades.

And when the work was done, Rob made a commitment that does not appear on any invoice. He will be back every April. He attended Easter Mass. He will evaluate the roof. He will make sure this building is looked after for as long as he is able.

A 140-year-old roof is not a project. It is a responsibility.

What does an industrial client's safety culture actually look like, in practice, on a Tuesday?

It looks like tarping every dumpster on the site so rainwater can't carry debris into a storm drain.

It looks like a rule against standing on a flatbed unless that flatbed has rails.

It looks like a no-crane, no-flatbed restriction on the roof itself, which forces a crew to plan material logistics the hard way.

That was the working environment for our Building 108 roof replacement at TE Connectivity in Landisville. We finished it ahead of schedule, with a new white TPO system, lightning protection, and a 20-year warranty. The full project is on our site.

But the answer to the question is the part worth keeping. Safety culture isn't a poster in the breakroom. It's what a vendor agrees to before they even get on the roof.
