If I were a houseplant beginner again, these are the things I’d buy FIRST. 🌿

Grow lights: You don’t need the perfect sunny window to have happy plants! Grow lights completely changed where I could keep plants in my home, and they’ve made caring for some of my fussier plants so much easier.

Clear nursery pots: Once you start using clear pots, it’s hard to go back. Being able to actually see the roots makes it so much easier to check on root health and catch problems early. Plus it’s so fun to see the roots take over the pot 🤩

Plant food: Plants need nutrients to grow, and potting mix doesn’t provide an endless supply. Fertilizing appropriately helps replenish the nutrients your plants use and can support healthier growth.

Sticky traps: If you keep houseplants long enough, you’ll probably meet fungus gnats eventually. I like keeping sticky traps on hand so I can catch and monitor the adults before they turn into a whole situation.

What would YOU add to a beginner houseplant must-have list?

If your camera roll looks like this, we should be friends 🌿🤝

Just a girl with way too many plants and approximately zero plans to stop collecting them.

What plant are you currently obsessed with? 👀

4K?! 🥹🌿 I figured it was probably time I actually introduced myself.

I started Hoya Haus after my first knee surgery as a way to share something I loved while I was stuck at home recovering. At the time, I had somewhere around 50 houseplants… and somehow we’re now approaching 200. 😂

What started as a little plant account has turned into such a fun community, and I genuinely love getting to share the wins, the fails, the experiments, and all the plants I definitely did not need to bring home.

If you’re new here, HI! I’m so happy you found me. 🫶 And if you’ve been here for a while, thank you for sticking around and enabling my plant obsession.

Now that you know a little more about me, I want to know about YOU! Tell me a fun fact about yourself in the comments. 🌿

Yesterday was a very dangerous day for my self-control. 😂🌿

PlantCon made its Seattle debut with more than 150 plant and plant-related booths, and being surrounded by that many plants, and that many people who understand the obsession, was everything!

I found rare Hoyas, admired plants I definitely couldn’t carry home, met some incredible people, and somehow left with no more than I could carry in my arms. I consider that restraint. 😂

I was invited by PlantCon International ® to experience the event, and PlantCon is still happening today at the Seattle Convention Center Summit until 6 p.m. You do not want to miss it!!!

Thank you, PlantCon, for bringing the plant community together in Seattle. Come back soon!🫶
