What’s better than inviting a chef to test out a SHAWOOD kitchen? Inviting 𝘵𝘸𝘰 chefs. We asked chefs (and friends!), H and Catherine, to put a SHAWOOD kitchen through the ultimate test by cooking their own dishes simultaneously.

In case you missed it, H made jjajangmyeon (”pronounced JJA-jahng-MYUN, the double “j” sound existing somewhere between cha and ja,” according to Eric Kim for The New York Times), a classic Korean comfort food that’s a staple for celebrating, from graduations to moving day.

In this video, Catherine prepares a delicious Crispy Rice Salmon Salad. Head to our Instagram if you want the full recipe, and stay tuned to see who cooks in a SHAWOOD kitchen next!

A dream team joined us Inside the Dream Kitchen. We invited friends and chefs H Woo Lee (H to his friends) and Catherine McCord (aka Weelicious) to cook together in a SHAWOOD kitchen, complete with Monogram appliances and Brizo faucets.

First up, we have H making jjajangmyeon (”pronounced JJA-jahng-MYUN, the double “j” sound existing somewhere between cha and ja,” according to Eric Kim for )— a savory Korean black bean noodle dish that’s eaten to celebrate fresh starts, from graduations to moving day.

Stay tuned for Catherine’s dish!

We know that today can be filled with a lot of big feelings and that Mother’s Day looks different for everyone.

Some of us have stories that were shaped by the love of someone other than a mother: A grandmother who taught you how to make a cherished family recipe that your kids still ask you to make on repeat. An aunt who accepted you as one of her own. A friend’s parent who quietly made room at the dinner table for another plate, or packed extra snacks for lunch—just in case. A neighbor who always welcomed you in with a warm smile and sent you home with a little baggie of baked goods.

Maybe you’re celebrating your first Mother’s Day as a new mom, or grieving the loss of what could have made today a celebration. Whether today feels happy or heavy (or maybe even a mix of both), we’re holding space for whatever your day may look like. Here’s to the humans and homes that make room for all the versions of motherhood, from the messy bits to the moments you’ll cherish forever.

Happy Mother’s Day from SHAWOOD!

From framing to 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦. Swipe through to see a before-and-after look at how a SHAWOOD home comes to life at The Glades in Camas, Washington.

Every stage of construction with SHAWOOD is a deliberate decision that begins long before any of the finishing touches: the proprietary precision engineering, sustainable materials, and Japanese architectural heritage. All of these intentional design decisions define our spaces, and more importantly, make the finished home feel the way it does.

SHAWOOD at The Glades is now open in Camas, Washington—just minutes from the Columbia River Gorge, downtown Portland, and the kind of peace and quiet that can only be found when you finally decide to ditch the big-city hustle and bustle for smaller-city charm.

Every SHAWOOD home we build starts with a promise to the planet.

Wood harvested from sustainably certified forests where we plant two trees for every one we take. Precision construction methods that reduce the amount of waste during the building process. Zero Energy packages where renewable energy sources are included as standard. Advanced air filtration systems that create a tight, well-insulated home with excellent indoor air quality. Plus, better-for-you building materials and finishes, like low-and no-VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) products—including paint, flooring, and adhesives—which also help you breathe easier.

Building homes that honor the earth isn't just our practice; it's our principle. When you choose to build with materials that heal rather than harm, you create spaces that sustain both your wellbeing and the world around you, too.

Happy Earth Day from SHAWOOD.
