This is a great demonstration of the difference between fiberglass, spray foam, and cellulose showing no matter how much R value you have without a complete air seal you are going to have air moving through your attic into your living space. This display is a sealed environment with three seperate chambers. There is a small fan in the center of the chamber that blows air into the bottom of the three chambers which shows how air moves through the three types of insulation shown. This display shows how without an air seal insulation, is just like putting a thicker jacket on but leaving it unzipped.

This was a two phase project of an addition. In phase one we sprayed open cell foam on the exterior walls to seal the addition up and make sure it could easily be kept comfortable through Oklahomas wild weather, also in phase one we put fiberglass batting up in one of the rooms to keep that room quiet. In phase two we went in and first air sealed the attic, and second blew loose fill fiberglass insulation over top to keep the living space comfortable and seperate from the attic.
