Construction workers are more likely to die by su***de than in a workplace fatality. Mears is working to make su***de prevention part of the way we think about safety.

Last month, through a partnership between Quanta Services, Inc. and MATES North America Pilot, Mears employees in Miami recently took part in mental health and su***de prevention training designed specifically for industries like construction and energy.

The goal is simple: help employees recognize when a coworker may be struggling, start the conversation and connect them with support.

They came to get out of the classroom. They left asking how they could get into the industry.

More than 2,000 girls and young women attended Transportation & Construction GIRL Day in Golden, Colorado, where Mears returned for its third year as a sponsor.

At our booth, participants tried live utility locating on an actual light pole, worked with a low-voltage security camera and talked with employees about careers across Mears, from field operations and training to marketing and more.

The goal is simple: give the next generation a chance to experience the work, meet the people doing it and see opportunities they may not have considered before.

Some moments change everything. For Anne Filteau, that moment was a cancer diagnosis. As she faced what came next, the people around her helped carry the weight. That support inspired Anne to do the same for others.

When employees learned what Anne and her husband, Mark, an operations manager with Mears’ Southeast Gas Distribution division, were going through, they rallied around them. What started with “just a few friends” has grown into the 23-member Pretty in Pink Pack, which has raised over $18,000 for the American Cancer Society.

Mears is proud to support the 2026 American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer in Tampa Bay alongside Tampa Electric Peoples Gas. The walk will be held Oct. 24.
