Being disabled is hard enough without struggling to pass through doorways, or get in the shower, or reach the cupboards. The Home Builders Foundation helps families in the Denver community with physical disabilities modify their homes so they can live more independently.

For Kathleen, aging safely at home means having the freedom to move through her daily life with greater independence.

Living with arthritis and preparing for ankle replacement surgery, Kathleen needed a safer way to enter and exit her home. HBF provided a new front ramp, grab bars and a ShowerBuddy.

“I wouldn’t change anything. Everybody is awesome just the way they are.”

We’re honored to help Kathleen continue living safely and independently in the home she loves.

Mary is 91 and struggles with mobility, making even a single step difficult and unsafe. The steep steps at her home prevented her from easily attending medical appointments, enjoying her backyard, or safely leaving during an emergency.

During our August Blitz Build, volunteers from Craig Hospital built Mary a new accessible ramp, giving her a safer way to enter and exit her home and more freedom to enjoy the outdoors.

Thank you to the incredible Craig Hospital team for helping Mary remain safe and independent at home!

We’re grateful to everyone who joined us at Clubs for Cause presented by Boise Cascade and helped make the day such a fun and meaningful one.

Your support helps turn obstacles into open doors for individuals and families with disabilities across our community. Together, we’re building greater access, mobility, safety, and independence one client at a time!

Here are a few highlights from the day!

Living with health conditions that affect his balance and mobility made it increasingly difficult for Steven to safely navigate his home.

HBF installed a chairlift, safety rails, and an accessible ramp, giving Steven safer access throughout his home and the freedom to spend more time outside. The modifications also allow him to use his electric wheelchair more often, reducing the physical strain on his wife, who has a back injury.

These modifications provided more than accessibility. They brought greater safety, mobility, independence, and peace of mind to Steven and his entire family.

Another August Blitz Build in the books!
Andrea, who is living with multiple sclerosis, previously needed assistance to get outside. Her new ramp will give her greater independence and the freedom to go outdoors, enjoy dinner on the patio, and come and go more easily.
A huge thank-you to the team from Higgins, Hopkins, McLain & Roswell, LLC for building Andrea’s ramp and helping make independence possible at home.
