Last week, Duro Electric attended the red ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly constructed Welcome Center at Aims Community College in Greeley, CO. We would like to thank our team of over 30 electricians who worked diligently to bring this building to life. Duro Electric would also like to thank Fransen Pittman General Contractors for allowing us to partner with them in building this amazing Welcome Center.

Duro Electric had the opportunity this summer to visit four organizations that provide amazing services to our community. Each of the individuals from these organizations we met were truly dedicated to doing their best to better our community and world. We encourage you to look more into what great things these organizations are doing: Hope Outreach Providing Encouragement, We Don't Waste, CHARG Resource Center, and Button and Zipper. Duro is proud (and humbled) to be recognized by the ABCRM during their Excellence in Construction awards ceremony. Three of our projects were recognized during the ceremony:
- Longmont High School
- Greenwood Village Maintenance Facility
- Frasier Meadows Senior Living

Duro Electric had the opportunity to meet with students of Dakota Ridge High School's Career Explore Program and talk to them about opportunities in Construction Trades. Jeremy Kucera, Mark Stark, Johnny Guyton, and Rudy Stines shared their experiences with the students of working in the construction industry, and how it would be a great career choice for them should they choose to pursue it. The Career Explore Program allows students to explore various career options in the skilled trades and information technology during their Junior and Senior years of High School. We are proud to present a $5,000 MDU Foundation Donation to the Career Explore Program to help support their efforts in guiding students to future career paths. For the past two years, Duro Electric has hosted High School Interns from this program to work in our Prefabrication Shop and learn the Electrical Trade--we look forward to hosting a new intern next year as well!

MDU Resources Company News:

Duro Electric Project Foreman Tyler Gonzalez was walking back to his job site following a break on Tuesday, June 23, when he spotted smoke pouring out of a food stand on the Denver 16th Street Mall. The mall is a mile-long pedestrian promenade in the heart of downtown Denver.

Gonzalez said there was too much smoke to see through the glass, but a nearby security guard spotted a hand banging on the glass from the inside.

“We checked all the doors, but they were locked so the security guard smashed the window with a fire extinguisher,” Gonzales said.

Gonzales and the security guard grabbed the man inside by the arms and lifted him up and out the window. The fire department arrived shortly afterward, thanks to someone in the area calling 911.

Employees from Swinerton Builders, the project’s general contractor, shared the story with Duro Electric and praised Gonzalez for going above and beyond in performing a heroic act.

Duro Electric President Jeremy Kucera thanked Gonzalez for saving the life of a person in need.

“His selfless act is a testament to who he is as a person,” Kucera said. “He has made everyone at Duro extremely proud.”
