Fire is a light source. Most people just don't design it that way.

Layer it with landscape lighting and it stops competing with the space... it becomes part of it.

✨ Uplighting on nearby trees lets the flame read as warm, not harsh
✨ Water features nearby double the effect... reflections carry the light further than the fire itself
✨ Dimmed ambient lighting lets the flame become the brightest point in the space, exactly where the eye should land

Fire isn't separate from a lighting plan. It's a layer of it.

What designers consider before choosing a fire feature:

📐 Seating radius – how close people naturally sit to feel the warmth... without crowding the space
🚶 Circulation – how people move around and past the feature without disrupting the gathering
🎯 Focal point – where the eye lands first when entering the space
📏 Proportion – scaling the feature to the space, not just to the budget

In this project, a square fire feature was chosen specifically to align with the seating layout and sightlines... not because it looked good on its own, but because it worked with everything around it.
