The ocean doesn't stay outside this living room.

At our Sheffield project, floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors pull the coastline straight into the main living space, with a fireplace and easy seating built for taking it all in, whether the doors are open or closed.

The kitchen carries the same intention: a waterfall marble island, warm wood cabinetry and a full-width range hood anchoring a space clearly built for people who actually cook and gather here.

This backyard wraps a cantilevered deck around a mature tree instead of clearing it, with wide glass sliders connecting the main living space directly to the patio below.

It's Project Manager Month at Alair, and this week we're spotlighting Alfredo Rodriguez, project manager at Alair Encinitas.

Based in San Diego, Alfredo brings an MBA from Marymount California University and a Project Management certification from UCSD, tools he uses every day to lead teams effectively. He specializes in guiding cross-functional groups to deliver complex projects on time and within budget, with a strong emphasis on collaboration and clear communication.

Outside of work, Alfredo enjoys motorsports and fishing. But most of all, he loves spending time with his family, especially his two daughters.

Project managers like Alfredo are often the face of Alair for homeowners throughout a project, and this month is about recognizing that.

The cabinetry floats. Everything else stays grounded. At our Cedros-Salona Beach project, this primary bath pairs a continuous marble slab running from the counter to the backsplash with floating white cabinetry and open shelving for everyday essentials.

Two vanities, one uninterrupted mirror, and enough natural light to make the room feel larger than it is. A single branch on the counter is the only thing that isn't built in.

How do we continue to learn, improve and raise the standard of what we do?

For Alair’s project managers, it starts with understanding the details behind the build. Why building assemblies work. How materials and construction methods perform in practice. And how the right processes and decisions can influence the outcome of a project.

At our 2026 PM Summit in Denver, these questions were at the center of hands-on building science training, technical discussions and workshops. Project managers explored real-world construction challenges, examined different approaches and gained insights they can apply to their work in the field.

Our vendor partners brought another valuable perspective, sharing their technical expertise, product knowledge and experience from across the industry. These conversations created space to ask questions, exchange feedback and explore solutions to the challenges our teams encounter on projects.

Ultimately, improving how we build requires more than experience alone. It takes curiosity, a willingness to challenge what we know and a commitment to continually refining our approach.

That’s the value of investing in technical knowledge and bringing industry expertise into the conversation.
