A car drove head first into a building hitting a 2,000 amp service! The building department had red tagged the structure. All of the occupants inside had to leave. We then provided a 290 KW diesel generator… The building had been able to open the next day. We had worked all night to provide the structure with temporary power! More than 200,000 remained without power in the tri-state area early Thursday, with New Jersey bearing the brunt of the outages (100,000-plus as of 7 a.m.).

Worried about refrigerators filled with spoiled food to flood damage made worse due to failed sump pumps & more. When your power goes out there can be serious consequences! The best protection is a generator. But which one? Large portable generators can produce up to 10,000 watts which can be enough to power most homes. Smaller recreational generators are intended more for camping but will do in a pinch. They produce 2000 watts which might be enough for a fridge or deep freezer, phone chargers.

But portable generators come with a risk many people have died or been injured due to carbon monoxide poisoning.
1. Do not put your portable generator anywhere in your home ie back porch, basement garage etc.
2. Always operate a portable generator 20 feet from your home.
3. Always have battery operated carbon monoxide detectors in your house.
4. Do not operate in wet conditions to avoid shock
5. Always let generator cool before refueling. spilled on hot generator could ignite.
6. You will need to have an electrician install a transfer switch from your electrical panel to power larger appliances ie air conditioner, refrigerator.
