Most folks think construction completely shuts down once it gets cold, but honestly, winter is the smoothest time to tackle bathrooms and kitchens.

City permit departments aren't backed up like they are in May, tile and cabinet deliveries don't face peak-season backorders, and all the work happens inside where it’s warm anyway. Plus, getting the dust and demo out of the way over the winter means your new space is completely done and ready to enjoy by the time spring rolls around.

If you're thinking about modernizing your bathroom or kitchen before next year, now’s the time to start talking layouts.

Every January, our phones ring with the same issue: no water in the bathroom because a pipe froze in the crawlspace.

When we open up floors in older homes, we almost always find bare copper lines sitting exposed right above cold dirt and drafty foundation vents. Whenever we do rough-in plumbing, we make sure every single line gets high-density foam sleeves and tight insulation before we seal up the subfloor.

If you’ve got an older place with drafty crawlspaces, getting ahead of insulation now is worth every penny before winter digs in.
