What's in bloom right now? Liatris scariosa, or Eastern Blazing Star! If you love Liatris spicata and wish you had another round of magenta blooms, this one is a great option. It blooms later and with larger flowers! Check out the mass of Skippers on Cianna's plant at home! It is unfortunately not as deer resistant in my yard and I had to protect it. Planting more densely around it will help!

We often get asked about Goldenrod (Solidago) species causing Fall allergies. The good news is it has such heavy, sticky pollen, you'd have to rub your face in it to get a reaction. The most common cause of Fall allergies is Ragweed, due to its windborne pollen. So don't fear Goldenrods, plant them for the pollinators! Goldenrods are keystone species in our area, due to hosting so many lepidoptera species and feeding specialist bees.
