Even the cleanest installs can have surprises…

This new backflow assembly was installed neatly, with great workmanship by a local reputable business. But during the initial test, the check valve wouldn’t seal correctly.

After disassembly, we found the culprit: a small piece of dried PVC glue had broken loose and become lodged in the check valve, preventing it from sealing properly.

It’s a reminder that even on fresh installations, tiny bits of debris from the assembly process can cause a backflow test to fail. Fortunately, the fix was relatively simple. We removed the obstruction, reassembled the device, and verified it was functioning properly.

After 27 years, Chris Holmes is retiring from the City of Ellensburg’s Wastewater Dept. He’s spent nearly three decades doing the kind of tough, essential work that keeps our community going, even when nobody sees it.

After 27 years of service with the City of Ellensburg at the Wastewater Treatment Facility, Chris Holmes has decided to retire.

The City of Ellensburg will be hosting a retirement celebration from 1:30-3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 10th in the City Hall Council Chambers, 501 N. Anderson St.

In retirement, Chris plans to enjoy the outdoors as an angler, mushroom hunter, and rockhound.

In the Yakima Basin, a third consecutive year of drought has caused historically low reservoir storage and streamflows. Ecology is issuing an unprecedented halt to surface water use beginning Oct. 6.

In response to a recent order from the Washington State Department of Ecology, the City of Ellensburg is asking its residents to help conserve water.

They suggest residents take action by reducing indoor water consumption and winterizing irrigation systems early.

If you see the old Dodge and the big orange compressor in your neighborhood it means one thing… BLOW-OUTS! Fall is here and it’s time to winterize those sprinklers.

It’s not pretty, but this truck reminds me of the 80s Dodge Adventurer my dad had when I was growing up. Fun fact: this 1984 Dodge D250 Prospector was originally purchased new in Ellensburg from University Auto Center!
