Snore rooms are more common among luxury home buyers, largely depending on square footage space and budgets. Whether they are a new trend or not, may surprise you.
In the late 19 th century, the bedroom became centralized around health and wellness and separate sleeping arrangements were recommended. Separate rooms weren’t the focus, but single beds in one room created physical separation between a couple and was viewed as a means for better health, ventilation and uninterrupted sleep from waking distractions.
Contrary to viewing separate sleeping rooms as having relationship issues, it’s viewed this day and age as a wellness aid. Commonly known as a “sleep divorce,” this sleeping arrangement helps strengthen relationships. When someone gets good, quality sleep, they tend to exhibit better patience, better communication and more empathy toward their partner.
The beauty of a snore room is that it provides the separation for sleep, while keeping couples together in a primary suite. Couples can stay separate but still connected.
Snore rooms can bring wellness into the design of a primary bedroom, much like a spa- inspired bathroom or yoga space can bring wellness-focused spaces into a new home. Good insulation and sound proofing are key factors of a snore room. Other factors to include are soft surfaces to help with acoustics, independent lighting controls and separate temperature controls.
Flex space should also be factored in considering a snore room. While being a snore room is the focus of this space, it can also be used for a meditation room, nursery, dressing room or lounge – the possibilities are endless.
When considering a snore room, the homeowners should keep in mind that the healthiest sleeping arrangement is the one that enables both partners to obtain sufficient, high quality sleep while preserving a strong emotional connection.
